Spam that's actually a little interesting.

Got this in my mailbox. Mildly intriguing. The effort that goes into these things is pretty incredible when you think about it.

Dear Friend,
I am the officer of bill and exchange at the foreign remittance department of African development bank.

In my department i discovered an abandoned sum ofUS$10.5 US dollars (ten million five hundred thousand US dollars) in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with his entire family in July 2000 plane crash.
website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/859479.stm

Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next ofkin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unlesssome body applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guidlings and laws but unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him at theplane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I decided to make this business proposal to you and release the money to you as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety andsubsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and we don't want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill.

The banking law and guidline here stipulates that if such money remained unclaimed after seven years, the money will be transfered into the bank treasury as unclaimed fund. The request of foreigner as next of kin in this business is occassioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner and a Burkinabe cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner.
I agree that 30% of this money will be for you as a respect to the provision of a foriegn account , 10%will be set aside for expenses incurred during the business .
Thereafter, I will visit your country for disbursement according to the percentage indicated.

Therefore, to enable the immediate transfer of thisfund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relation or nextof kin of the deceased indicating your bank name, your bank account number, your private telephone and fax number for easy and effective communicationand location where in the money will be remitted.

Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by fax or email the text ofthe application . I will not fail to bring to your notice that thistransaction is hitch-free and that you should not entertain any atom of fearas all required arrangements have been made for the transfer. You should contact me immediately as soon as youreceive this letter.
Trusting to hear from you immediately.

Yours faithfully
MR JAMES SAKATO

It's not just the incompetence

, , , ...

It's the sheer bloody mindedness of the entire thing.

Wouldn't it be better if the government were to get more contact between the corporations and the ISPs to suggest that pages be removed for content and let the host (blogger.com, opera.com, wordpress.org, ... etc.) have the option of blocking/removing content or advising the page owner to cease and desist?

The way the government's wording it, it almost sounds like, oh I don't know, if a blogger were to, let's say, speak out against a hypothetical institution, the IIPM for example, who were to be pissed with that blogger, who for our argument's sake said that their college was a fraud. They could then get the ISPs to block that particular blog now couldn't they? And the Government could say that this was justified.

Getting gay with Ze

Oh. You didn't know I love South Park did you? Now you do.

Ze Frank's show's excellent. Subscribe to the podcast[iTunes]. I order you! (But we've never gone that fast sir! The ship can't take it! What are you Sanders? Chicken?!)

Here is Ze not leering at you like a pervert
He's got a voting system on his comments section of the Show's episodes in which you get to give a thumbs up or a thumbs down to a comment that you like. Here's the interesting part. He has a script which checks the IP address and allocates 100 clicks per day per address. Extremely delectable fare I must say. Although, I'd rather have that an IP address have one click per comment. I don't know, maybe I'm old and stupid.

My brains are going into my feet. Stop this thing! I order you!

Update: And if you thought that I was gay, sorry for you. Your gaydar's broken. Stop being so judgemental.

Opera tidbits you already knew and would like to see others repeat in blog-posts

, , ,

It's called a love-fest.

Got a wheeled mouse? Well, in the Opera window, right click and hold - give the wheel a spin. Voila! Tab browsing (just like mom used to do with ctrl and tab). But that's not the cool part. With opera9, you get a thumbnail view of the tab's content (much like the one in IE7 but that's not a good direction to go) if you hover over the tab. Want to see the same thumbnail in the tab browsing selector? Go here. Don't forget to save your settings of course.

Enjoy the new ride.

If you don't have opera and you clicked the link... -sigh- you want to get Opera too now don't you? Click the download button. It's on the side bar. It's so easy. It's right there. Click it. Go on. Use Opera. Browse better.
