JScript vs. CSS

,

I'm not an expert in either, but I'm more comfortable with the latter.

You can coddle the style sheet to do whatever you want it to, and coddle you must. A lot. Not if you know what you're doing of course.

It takes a while, but the results are more than satisfactory.

Here's my personal page. Built mostly with CSS and as it doesn't have many embedded videos yet, it's still valid XHTML and CSS. Except for the "OnClick" event of course. Those I can't do anything about. Need JScript for that. Borrowed that code from F*** this Website. And of course. NSFW, open at your own risk etc. Duh.

Well, hope you like it. More later.

Update : bah. I'm stupid aren't I? Downgrade this post to idiotic.

Ummm what's that again now?

,

FYI, this was on FF on Mac OS X. Weird. Doesn't happen in Opera.

Here's a thought

Akshay was telling me the other day:

(22:15:51) Akshay: you should do a podcast
(22:16:00) Akshay: or a nightly news bulletin
(22:16:09) Akshay: you know, and call me on google talk or something
(22:16:12) Akshay: and have an interview
(22:16:17) Akshay: know what im saying?
(22:16:53) Akshay: duuude
(22:16:55) Akshay: i mean
(22:16:59) Akshay: had a brilliant idea
(22:17:12) Akshay: i'll do a talking-points show
(22:17:13) SB:: right
(22:17:17) Akshay: with you and metlin
(22:17:23) SB:: hey!
(22:17:25) Akshay: you == the liberal, pacifist left
(22:17:27) SB:: that's my idea
(22:17:30) SB:: ROYALTY!
(22:17:34) Akshay: metlin == the right
(22:17:42) SB:: screw you
(22:17:50) SB:: i'm authoritarian
(22:17:52) SB:: centrist
(22:18:00) Akshay: me == the cool, conan-o-brien-meets-colbert-isque news anchor
(22:18:01) SB:: not liberal at all
(22:18:26) SB:: but sure
(22:18:42) SB:: anything to cover dead air
(22:19:02) Akshay: i dont know, though, how to do a teleconference over the net

Well, I have the solution.

Make a blog in which the left and right representatives are members and then get a dialogue going. Someone initiates a topic, the others respond in the post rather than in the comments. This way, comments from site visitors stay away from contributor input.

We'll have more fighting done this way. There's a lower possibility of the parties missing the other's repartee.

Send me the check/cheque.

Of what could be...

,

I see the beginnings of something potentially big here. The Geriatric isn't going for really controversial stuff, just starting out, trying to feel the youtube crowd, pun unintended (filthy people P:). Get a feel for, rather. A steady stream of comments pour in, so he keeps quite busy. Let's wait and see how this goes.

Trawling through history again

,

When there's a BIG FRIKKIN' DEADLINE TOMORROW™, I always tend to look for stupid stuff that I did last time when I had the BIG FRIKKIN' DEADLINE TOMORROW™. Procrastrination is second nature in these times. You try to get along with it. Came across this passage that I added to the Uncyclopedia entry on Hippies. Somebody decided to add some Man, Man text to the entire article, but it still looks good.

The original:

Nothing can be worse than finding out your parents were hippies though. I mean, come on! The emotional baggage alone will drive you to their stash - which most often can be found in garage boxes labelled "Economics Books" or "Cher Music". This is an ingeneous hippie parent trick and should not throw you off. Some cunning hippies will in fact store their stash among the aforesaid items. Handle the contents With caution. Remember - you're looking for the stash. Not the years of therapy you'll need when you experience the other items.

It must have been after watching the 9th season of South Park over and over again. God I miss South Park. When is it back on anyway?

The Cydonian asked a very good question here.

He got good answers.

Notice that they call it mefi? Sounds like Mehfil? Anyone? Huh? hmmm?

Naah. Someone must have noticed that already.

Things that made me laugh till I sounded hysterical

I was flipping through channels the other day when I stopped at the Dr. Phil show. It was on sexual predators on myspace. Interesting topic. Let's watch. They, in typical reality telivision fashion, deploy the fakester profile. An intern opened a profile and put a very suggestive picture of herself and claimed she was 15 years old, etc etc. The usual bait.

The part about them chatting up a whole lot of people because of a suggestive profile picture wasn't the funny part. What was hilarious was what followed soon after.

The intern then began to describe her experience on myspace and the sort of depraved people that she met within a week. She then said, "As soon as I signed up, within a week, I had over 350 friends in myspace!" Immediately, they cut to the pixelated profile picture of the first pervert who signed up as her friend.

Let's see if you can recognize him.Oh the filthy filthy pervert! LYNCH HIM!
The other one was this list of Qantas air responses. I suggest you rethink your next flight with them. First there was Rainman suggesting you fly only Qantas and then there's this. Which do you want to believe?

Oh... animated GIFs

How I have missed thee...

The Hyderabad Outer "EXPRESSWAY"

,

The Outer Ring road nee "EXPRESSWAY" sounds like a good idea. Let's see it in action though.

For a parallel, try the 820 loop in Fort Worth and the loop formed by the I20, the 635, the 360 around Dallas. We can't live without them.

By the way, what's all this? Google maps has changed to feel more like local.live ? What's happening to the world? :smile:

Subhash Srivastav

, , , ...

I've come across just two references to this news item in my facebook community page and a former colleague just IM'd an identical message to the same effect.

Subhash Srivastav, a student of the AIIMS, died at 6:44PM on the 20th of May 2006 and his death has been attributed to his hunger strike in opposition to the proposed reservation initiative in India. The messages even go on to say that the media isn't reporting this issue. I haven't been able to ascertain if this was because of someone trying to suppress this bit of news or because the family of the deceased wished to protect their privacy.

In either case, I haven't been able to find news articles citing this claim. Please do link to these articles if they exist.

My condolences to the deceased's family and friends. I hope his death was not in vain.

UPDATE: Thanks to the DesiTexan for pointing to the news article which cites this claim to be a hoax. Good work boy. Here's a biscuit. Fetch!

Lifli's based off of ... you won't guess it... Hyderabad! It looks like an interesting place. I stumbled across it when navigating Mr. Hodgman's page and the comments within.

In any case, Hyderabadi .mac startup. Interesting to say the least.

I especially love where this ends up.

Surfing should be allowed at the office. I intend to spend most of my time at any job looking at Strongbad Emails[Homestarrunner.com] and telling people "I loved Strong Bad before you knew what the internet was". :cool:
