Discussing the Middle-East in a Conversation
Thursday, 3. August 2006, 03:21:20
We talked about some important stuff and some useless stuff.
I don't care if you don't agree with me.
Just don't kill me because of that.The Inception.htmlThe Filler1.htmlThe Filler2.htmlThe Inconclusion.html
UPDATE(08/06/06): Metlin's discussing the topic on his page too. He originally titled it "Solutions to a problem Why the Middle East needs to go" (capitalization mine). He now has a more mellow title. http://www.metlin.org/2006/08/06/solutions-to-a-problem-the-heart-of-terror-in-the-middle-east/
I made a few comments and observations on the topic. If all that you can say is "You are wrong", don't bother. If you can tell me why, do so.
UPDATE(08/08/06): There's a comment in Metlin's page about George Galloway's rant on Sky News. I must say, I find myself in a position where I must apologize profusely to anyone who thought I suggested that the entire Hizbollah be decimated. I did think that, because I was led to believe that Hizbollah were a purely terrorist organization who had taken over Lebanon. Once again. Fact checks. Always important. If you will allow me to correct my terrible terrible error, I will try my best to do so.
However, that does not imply that that justifies any rhetoric which mandates the eradication of a nation or a people. 50 years of conflict in that area does that to a people and their mindset, but how long do they want this to go on? Until someone decides to go ahead and flex their nuclear muscles again? Would you really rather die than find a solution which ensures your survival?
UPDATE(08/17/06): Well, after some guy got fired from his job because of some (allegedly) incredibly insensitive and racist comments, metlin feels his posts are not worth losing his job over. So he got rid of them for now. I still think that that's living in terror, but I also sympathise. In any case, trying to move those posts here so that those brilliant pieces of art may not slip into myth and infamy.

Well, as long as you don't leave my e-mail address in there, it's all good.
But then, with the Dune references, how hard would it be for people, I wonder.

I tried replying to the post that metlin has up and forgot to put in the security code a few times, and then lost patience.
anyway, read william dalrymple's from the holy mountain (the sections about israel). it's chilling.
and liberal is not a bad word, even if everyone seems to think it is. (this was actually meant to go on metlin's page, but like i said, no patience).

i don't want the brain-deadness of 1984 either, but I'd like to see a bit of Gaia.
it's at this point that "the other" pipes in with "the mozzy bastards want you to make your women wear burkhas, and follow a guy who raped kids" and i tell myself, let's not invite this person. too much baggage.

Sophist,
Liberal isn't a bad word, but neither is conservative. When one side can use it derogatively, the other starts to, as well.
Although, I must say that most of what I've seen coming from the "liberal hippie" crowd (e.g. Michael Moore and other leftist folks) makes me feel that most of these folks just spew forth rubbish without giving it a thought.

Metlin - Michael Moore is an extremist bigot who makes liberals look bad. But that's just my opinion.
Anyway, "the mozzy bastards want you to make your women wear burkhas, and follow a guy who raped kids" ???
oh, and almonds- Jerusalem was initially supposed to be an international city administered by the UN, but Israel and Jordan took over west and east Jerusalem respectively when the resolution creating the state of Israel was signed.... and then sometime in the sixties, i think, israel took over Jordan-occupied east jerusalem too.
