The hunt for life

I lead a climbing group Toronto Rock Climbing Meetup and last nights meeting was interesting. My normal steady as a rock climber member Jeff shows up 20 minutes before the meeting time.

So we are sitting waiting for the other climbers to show as people come and go from the club. Thinking no one will show up we talk about what planning we will do and what his objectives will be for the climb.

A flood of people surround the couch i am sitting on, all ready to climb and go. So I split the climbers into pairs and take the least experience climber with me. She needs a belay check, I am thinking oh my god i am gonna die; surprise, she knows what she is doing.

So as we climb, Jamie the gym manager comes up and says there is another late comer; a rather cute Asian girl who needs a belay check. Oh shit, no idea how to use a Griri and as the group leader I need to take the worst climber.

Turns out she uses a different belay device and once she has the mechanics down its a good climb, cute too bad...
