OpenSolaris at the NLUUG conference

During last weeks' NLUUG conference Menno Lageman and I were there to do some OpenSolaris advocacy. NLUUG indeed means "NederLandse Unix Users Group", so for that matter we were exactly at the right place for Solaris and OpenSolaris.
Although the theme of the conference was "security", most of the questions directed to us were about OpenSolaris itself. "Is Solaris Nevada the same thing as OpenSolaris?","Is OpenSolaris the Linux-like distribution that was released last week, and can I use it also for PowerPC?" "Is the Solaris Express Developer Edition opensource?" There was quite some explaining to do about OpenSolaris source and its binary distro offspring. I think everybody, including Sun-people, will agree to the fact that we made it hard for ourselves -and for the public- in terms of not designing an efficient naming model for all involved community & opensource Sun products. Especially since the release of "OpenSolaris 200805" confusion has increased.
A while ago, Steve Lau published a drawing on his weblog, that reflects the relationships between (almost) all OpenSolaris distributions. It describes the releasepath from building and assembling sourcecode to the delivery of a complete binary distribution of any sort, as long as it comes from the initial Solaris source. So the drawing does *not* reflect any geo-political, antropological, emotional or otherwise relationship. :-)
In the meantime I have been trying to make Steve's model more actual. I hope it works. Just click on the image to inspect the process flows.
