Super-expensive gaming network card

By a mistake I clicked on a commercial for a Killer™ NIC which supposedly is awesome for online gaming.
First of all, I cannot remember that network traffic ever was any mentionable load for the CPU? If I ever experienced that the traffic used more CPU than the game I played, I'd be buying myself a new computer in no time. And I am quite certain that it'd be about as expensive as the card itself. The idea is great, but to charge $250 for that is just bloody exploitation.
I'll stick to my network card. I spent at most $10 for it about 4 years ago, and it works wonders still. In my opinion, that's a much better investment.
Killer™ NIC bypasses Windows networking and offloads network traffic from the CPU for smoother, more responsive gameplay during intense action and a competitive edge in all MMO and First Person Shooter (FPS) games.
