Still all quiet on the Polish front, or even worse…

Opera was used by 6.4% of Polish Internet users on September 2005, that is two years ago. Now, according to ranking.pl, Opera is used by 6.1% of the Polish users (when taking the weekly stats of September 25th - October 1st 2007).
These numbers are not fully comparable, since current ranking.pl stats are obtained using a new methodology, which shows a bit lower market share of Opera when compared to the results obtained using the old method. Now the stats are based on the number of page views, while they were based on the user (or rather cookie) count before. The stats based on the new method were also generated for some months back, but the publicly available data do not cover versions of Opera which currently do not exceed the required usage level of 0.1%, so I'm not able to generate a chart like the one mentioned below.
So, even though the old results appeared to be a bit overestimated, we still may say, that Opera goes through a serious stagnation in Poland, especially if we take a look at this old chart.
It seems that the official Polish Opera partner did not (as for now) rather help with making Opera more popular here. Well, it's hard to help by doing nothing, isn't it?

The stagnation has started over 2 years ago, so it was long before the new methodology was introduced. And… maybe the aggressive caching could be a reason of an underestimated results, but it surely may not be "responsible" for the flat line (or rather a slow drop-down noticeable recently).
I wonder how many downloads come from opera.onet.pl. This page is so well hold back from the onet.pl users and even Google… I bet that the operapl.net fan site gives you dozens times more downloads.
The official Polish site (translated by me) located at pl.opera.com suffers another problem - the titles of the pages are not translated (it was Opera's decision) which makes lots of Google users omit them, since they see English texts (like "Opera browser: Homepage") in the search results, while they are looking for Polish ones.
BTW, the ranking.pl (Gemius) scripts are plainly everywhere here in Poland, and unfortunately Opera has often strange problems related to these scripts (while trying to connect to the Gemius statistics servers Opera often stalls and stops downloading the actual content of the page). That's why lots of Opera users decide to block Gemius. This, of course, has no influence on the ranking.pl results, since "normal" users do not do it. But these problems have impact on the overall Opera Browser image - Opera seems to be slower than other browsers when downloading the Web pages containing the Gemius scripts (which means almost every important Polish portal and site).
On the other hand, blocking Gemius (http://*gemius.pl/*) causes other, widely discussed at the Polish forum, browsing problems.

Regarding the Gemius script issue, has this been reported through the bug tracking system? Have you posted about it in the English part of the forum, and is it easy to reproduce the problem?

I think this issue is known for years. It is not specific for Gemius – it’s generally related to the way Opera handles external JavaScript files, not just Gemius (this is one of the mutations, 4 years old). In case of Gemius it’s super-annoying, since these scripts are commonly used in Poland.
The bug is not easy to reproduce, since whether it’s visible or not, depends on many conditions, including the location of the Javascript within the HTML code, the current load of the Gemius stat servers and probably Opera settings. So it’s something like this one, easy to get marked as eternal analyze or WFM.
I hope that by asking your question you don’t try to blame me for this bug.
But by mentioning the English fora, you’ve touched another interesting problem. Polish group is the most active group of my.opera.com. The Polish community is one of the biggest Opera communities. Poland is one of your biggest markets. You have dozens of Polish employees. It would be good, for you, for the Polish community and for Polish users, if a single Polish employee watched the Polish forum and (this is important) gave you the feedback. Good for you – you would be able to notice and value some problems specific for a big local market, before launching the final version (as it was with in case of Opera 9.20, which really made lots of bad in Poland). Good for community – people would feel much better if they knew that they were directly listened by Opera. Good for the Polish users – they would get a better product. And finally good for you again, since the chances to get greater market share would be meaningfully increased.
Some Polish community members, who have supplied English fora with the feedback from the Polish forum, seem to get bored with this already.

We definitely recognize the importance of a strong community, and several things have been set in motion when it comes to international communities.
