YOKO OH-NO!

, , , , ,

I was looking for my dose of Zappa on-line and I found a video where he plays with Lennon. I felt great, this could be interesting. I opened it and my smile started disappearing. Yoko Ono was there too. I was worried but I thought "it's an old video, quality sucks, maybe her parts won't be very audible...". I was wrong, she is doing the scared-pig-imitation all the time and basically making me feel pity for her. And ruining what could have been a magical moment. Here's the video :

(the joke "yoko oh-no" is not mine, I'm pretty sure I heard it in "the pros and cons of hitch-hiking" by Roger Waters)

This will clean your ears a bit if you dared to listen to the scared pig (I don't say SHE IS a scared pig, but she sounds like) :

and some moody BucketHead to relax and whisper good night :

Ok, now I feel better.

The one with Yoko and John was awful. After a few seconds of her wailing, or whatever it was she was doing, I had to stop it.

Never cared for Zappa's singing much but always liked his guitar playing.

Has anyone ever seen Buckethead without his mask and bucket? It's kind of like Kiss. Everyone wondered what they looked like without all that makeup.

Ciao PainterWoman!

Yes the video with Yoko is terrible. It seems to me like Lennon was among the ones that are being influenced, changed and ruined buy their woman.

I don't know Zappa enough, but I find some of his guitar work really interesting smile

About Bucket : there is only a little black&white photo of him without mask, taken when he was kinda 17yo. All the other ones are fakes (there are plenty on net). There are some videos where he is unmasked, but his face his blurred out (they are old videos of when he was kinda 20yo and playing with Deli Creeps).

Thanks for your comments bigsmile

Yoko is an amazing artist, I love her work, but her singing is DREADFUL!!!!
Im a big fan of John Lennon, but the music they sang together is terrible. I stopped listening to "Milk and Honey" (should have been "Sour milk and Honey" better) because I just couldn´t stand her songs.

I like Zappa and his guitar! up

Yep I remember you liked her as artist Henar, maybe I saw something on your blog a while ago. I don't know her other artistic activities so much, but about her "music" I can say I totally dislike everything I heard from her. I guess she was thinking that every kind of mess would sound plausible under the revolution and avant-garde cap, especially cos she was under the shadow of Lennon. No way, Yoko. Music has its own rules even when you are wandering the misty paths of dissonance. Here she's playing on some cheap cacophony that I don't appreciate at all. There is a lot of unconventional music I do appreciate cos even if I don't find it pleasant I can still see the research and concepts behind it, and I know it is made by musicians who are spending their lives studying hard to explore and try to understand music, wanting to expand this amazing medium -- Buckethead (just to name one) is often composing some atonal stuff that is probably sounding like pointless guitar work to someone not knowing what he is actually doing and why. But "musician" Yoko is a no-no for me. Avant-garde as much as she wants, but doing disturbing sounds is not music. I guess her screaming is second only to "zero tolerance for silence" from Pat Metheny as example of what music should be not (picking from what I listened to in my life). And Metheny is quite a genius. This proves there is always a chance for sounding idiots when trying to sound avant-garde rebellious artists, no matter who's your husband/wife or who you are bigsmile
