Something happens to Opera Community

Guys, honestly speaking it's not completely unexpected, but it's still quite a shock.

Well, if you have no idea what i'm talking about, you might like to recall this post that i wrote like a year ago.

Yes, the whole Opera Community has officially blocked by Great Firewall of China two weeks ago. Thanks to the great software TOR i was able to get access to this website and continue to update my blog. But this blocking means most Chinese user would have to abandon Opera blog for good since they don't know when they can visit this website once again.

This is quit a sad story. Since I'm doing the media business and running a magazine in China by now, I wouldn't post any further comment. I don't wanna have any trouble. To know more about this blocking, maybe you can use google to find out more details.

BTW: It's been a long time since last time i updated my blog. Sorry for that but i was really busy starting my magazine. Now we're pretty close to raise money to make this business work, hopefully we can be successful smile

You Have No Idea How Many Shows I've Been Watching These Days

,

Since when watching American TV shows becomes part of my job? Oh, I guess it was two months ago, when I started the Westernizer project rolleyes

Honestly speaking, I did watch a lot of American TV shows before the Westernizer get started, but I was just kind of seeing it as a excellent way to learn English, therefore most shows I watched were something like reality show (Survior, The Amazing Race, America's Next Top Model ...), sitcom (Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Two & a Half Men, The Office ...), and some cartoon (South Park, Family Guy ...), but rarely watching drama since it takes 40 something minutes to see one episode and the English in drama is a bit difficult to catch (well, at least more difficult than sitcom and reality show IMHO). And I rarely didn't watch medic shows before due to the rule of watching I made up myself which was that no subtitle was allowed while watching American TV shows, as a result medic drama was eventually way out of my capability (I mean, think about how many medic slang in these kind of show!). And (so many ands), I rarely watched science fiction shows either.

Everything changed since I started Westernizer. Since I started editing a American TV show-themed magazine, it's a must for me to know about all these shows, and the best way to know a TV show is, without question, watching it. What's more, in order to watch medic shows, the rule of no subtitle was officially abandoned.

So, the crazy watching action begins ...

As a result, in the past two months, I've been watching many many shows, the following list is just a unfinished one: House Season 1,2,3, Grey's Anatomy Season 1,2,3, Battlestar Galactica Miniseries & Season 1, Heroes, Ugly Betty ...... really huge amounts. But I got well pay back, I feel much easier when editing the magazine(Westernizer), and find myself have more and more insight and inspiration smile This is so damn good bigsmile

And now, the editing precess of the 3rd volume of Westernizer is underway, and it's expected to release on 28 December. Hopefully this volume can reach the level that we never did cause we've contribute so much energy on it and more and more people come together to help us. This is amazing. Westernizer is very hot now and it's only getting hotter, we have a bright future, and we believe we can succeed.

How Time Flies!

, , ,

OK, I know I haven't written blog for a really long time. To tell you the truth I feel guilty about that, and that's why I made up my mind to finish this post while in the office, which I also haven't done for long time -- you know I rare don't write blog while at work, not any more smile

Many things happened since my last post. First of all, the first volume of Westernizer magazine released! This is very huge for me. Editing a entire magazine was a brand new challenge for me, not even mention I'd never done that before. At the end of day the four-week's hard work pays back, I managed to release the first volume just in time, and it earns hundreds of downloads. Honestly speaking I'm very proud of what I've done, anyway editing a entire magazine is anything but a easy job. Now I work on the second volumes of Westernizer magazine which expected to release by the date Nov. 26.

And here goes the second stuff. I have tons of business trips through these days. And last weekend I'd just finished the longest business trip Ihve ever had so far, guess what, this business trip made me stay in a city for 12 days! That was nearly two weeks, and I'd pretty much ran out of clean clothes I brought when took off smile

The third one is something technical. If you're able to recall two big software update announcement then you might know what I'm saying. Yes, they were webbrowsers! Microsoft released the biggest update for its webbrowser in the latest five years a couple of days, and in pretty much the same time Mozilla released a major update for its Firefox too. That means, IE now labels as 7.0 and Firefox goes to 2.0. The sign of another webbrowser war? Probably. Wonder about my response? I updated Firefox to 2.0 and stood by on IE -- Microsoft is expected to release the official Chinese version of IE 7.0 in one month or two, just no rush, anyway anything happen to IE may effect the stability of the whole WindowsXP system, don't wanna risk it.

Did I mention the things I hate about the update precess of Firefox. Oh I guess not. Now let me tell me, everytime Firefox got major update, certain number of add-ons (that's what Firefox call them nowadays, in the old days they were known as extension) would sure to experience what I call 'varied period of incompatibility'. That was, for some reason some add-ons turned out to be incompatible with the new version of Firefox, and things won't change until developers update these add-ons to support this newly released platform. Firefox 2.0 didn't disappoint me, nearly ten add-ons that I installed on Firefox became useless after the update process, and it took nearly a whole month for those different developers realize the incompatibility problems and fix them. Anyway I'm feel lucky and happy that all add-on I installed previous function at the time I type these characters, you know last time I update Firefox, there were broken add-ons never recovered ... I guess they probably abandoned by the authors.

So, I guess this is it. There are so many things happened during the days and there's no way I typed every detail in this post. Gotta keep on blogging from this post on smile

Westernizer: First Volume Release!

Finally, after three week's hard working, the very first volume of Westernizer is release tonight!

It's been tough but yet intersting to make this digital magazine. InDesign was completely all Greek to me in the beginning, but in the end I manags to learn how to use it to make quality magazine.

Guys, check out the new hot magazine: Westernizer!

www.sourceforge.net/projects/westernizer

The magazine is all in Chinese, so you'd better be able to read Chinese if you're interest in downloading it bigsmile

Westernizer - Where We Are

So far, the status of the very first release of Westernizer digital magazine is still under construct.

It's been nearly two weekes since Westernizer project registered. And these two weeks are really tough for me, I manage to learn how to use a software that I've never even heard before -- InDesign, a desktop publish toolkit. It's been tough, but it's also been interesting.

Now I've finished the TV Shows part of the first volume, which means there're another part left for me to finish -- the Internet culture part. This is must be done by the end of this month, actually by the end of this week. The first release of Westernizer must be delivered this month, that's teh deadline, I can't, and I won't miss it.

I'm very clear that now it's not the time to celebrate, not yet. After done the magazine, I'll begin to worry about the website constructing stuff which is gonna be another tough work for me since I don't much about website design -- another learning-from-scratch thing to do smile

Anyway, I'm working on the project, and I've been contributing a lot of my energy on it. I never went to bed before 2:00AM these days, and I do expect all this work can be paid off -- people download this magazine and read it, then tell me they like it or don't like it, the reason they like it or don't like it, and what can I do to make it better. That would be my wish.

Gotta go to sleep. Okay it's just 1:15AM now, but tomorrow is Monday, gotta have a good looking-like. Good night.
