i can´t log in either...

yeah, i´ve tried about 20 times, i even typed in my password ever so slowly to make sure it was correct and still, nothing.

i already sent a PM to espenao, but no answer yet...
and i put a sticky post for him too on my blog, but also nothing.
He´s my moderator, is he yours????

I think he looks after the whole community so he's probably a busy man. I'd say things are still being set up, that's why we can't log in yet.

Previously, you expressed an interest in a counter in a comment attached to one of my posts. Before you make up your mind about the new counter (which all members will have after the initial testing), consider the following...

The "old" counter counted the number of "hits" to your blog...NOT the number of visitors. Every time a visitor (or you) loaded one of the pages on your blog, it would register another hit. Basically, it didn't tell you much of anything. If you had 97,000 count on the "old" hitter, all that told you was the total number of "hits" and provided absolutely no data to aid you in determining how many people really visited your blog.

The new counter...

1) Tells you the number of unique hits (first time visitors) visit your site and how many total hits you receive.

2) Tells you the source of your visitors (google search engine, MSN search, another site, bookmark, community page, image search, etc.). I, for example, was amazed at the number of visitors I receive from search engines!

3) Presents a geographical map and breakdown of the location from which your visitors of accessing your site (much like the maps some have on their blogs now, except larger and clearer).

4) The ISP the visitor has used to access your blog (great for providing info to Opera if you receive harrassing posts or comments).

5) The visitor's IP number (also great for providing info to Opera if you receive harrassing posts or comments).

6) Tells you what time the visitor accessed your blog.

7) Provides you with details regarding Page Views, Unique Visitors, Average Page Views and Average Unique Visitors broken down by the hour, day, week, month and year!

... and more!

I think the new counters, once implemented on EVERYONE's site, will be a welcome information source for all bloggers.

Hopefully, the counters will be available for all as soon as possible...I promise...you'll learn to love it!

Yes, but it also means that when you visit other people's blogs they have all of this information about you. Do you really want that? S.

I hate to tell you this, Sabrina, but every single site you visit on the Internet has that information. Your computer stores the URL of every site you visit (logs). The ISP has a record of every site you visit. Any site that has a good counter has that information (pretty much every site on the Internet). Anyone who expects to maintain privacy nowadays on the Internet is merely fooling themselves. As soon as you go on line, someone, somewhere knows it. They know where you go and what you do. Search engines maintain records of every search you perform. Everthing you place (type) on the Internet is spidered by all search engines. Sites that offer you free storage, free blogs, free anything maintain concise records concerning everything you do, have bought, have clicked on, etc. Why do you think they are free?

Your cell phone is equipped with GPS.

Your new cars are equipped with GPS.

Your cordless phone is easily tapped by anyone wishing to do so.

There are databases all over the Internet containing information about you, your family, your friends.

There is no privacy any more.

None.

Nada.

Yes, I did know all of this, Lee. But Opera has now decided to share much of this information with any INDIVIDUAL member who's blog we have visited.

Sarah, I noticed when I clicked on your page this time that it is going through the counter. If you can't log on yet, at least it is tracking the stats for you to review later, when you can log on.

Never mind! I might be wrong! (me? wrong? wow! who would've thought! LOL)

When I accessed through my IE browser, a counter id number did not appear in the URL as it did when accessed by the Opera browser.

So...just disregard what I said.

Great! Glad you finally have access! It's amazing how many visitors we get from search engines! I'm very, very happy that you now have access...I really am.
