Not me! I enjoyed the short break from having to stop every five minutes in the morning and every five minutes in the afternoon while school busses loaded and unloaded their cargos!
Like they say, all good things must eventually come to an end and I guess one man's misery is just a young mom's delight!
Hey Cheryl, I know...I have an unusual feeling of euphoria ....
dunno why! LOL not!
Lee, I am sorry, I know the feeling! While driving around town, doing my shopping I can't stand the traffic generated by the cars and busses taking and picking up kids. The cabbies here don't mind taking their time, and I know why. hehehe But trust me we all feel the pain of the traffic, mothers and fathers and everyone going to work.
Although the vast majority of people think that taxicab drivers love to "take their time, stop at lights, etc." because the meter keeps ticking are very wrong in their thinking! When the cab is sitting still, although the meter is running in "time" mode, it is not very much per minute and much less than when the taxicab is moving.
For example, if the meter is running at 25 cents per eighth of a mile while the cab is moving and 25 cents every 20 seconds when the cab is sitting still or traveling at less than 10 miles per hour (the mileage and time modes do NOT run at the same time), in one minute of travel time at 60mph, the cab driver receives $2.00, while at one minute of sitting, he/she only receives 75 cents. Also, the time stops running and starts from the beginning when the cab stops. So, lets say the cab sits for 30 seconds, then travels a couple of blocks, and then sits for another 35 seconds, the cab only takes in about $1.00! Remember, the timer starts over from the beginning when the cab stops.
Also, when there is heavy traffic, it takes the driver longer to answer a call for a taxicab, thus increasing the chances that the fare won't be there when the taxicab finally arrives to pick up the caller.
You know Lee, I had no idea. I know that your job is a difficult one and I would not like to have it. You never know who you are picking up, it is like inviting someone into your house without knowing who they are. Actually your job can be very dangerous....

Just a little taxicab trivia for ya!
