Good question... I initially kept a blog because it felt good to write stuff down. I didn't know anyone would actually read them. Now...I do it for fun.. and I actually have some family that reads it to see what I am up to.
Well… When I started my blog, it was about me, and my love, but slowly I started to write things about my past, and about the Hungarian attitude. Also I started to write about (mostly) Hungarian politics, and about software news. As time passed I started to make it bilingual – but sadly Hungary has its own blogsites – which are Myspace clones – but written in Hungarian – with a lot of idiots and filled with ads. Also these blogsides are pure and filled with thousands of bugs – and there are no such things like Groups, or Tech support… And due to Hungarian attitude I felt like it is pointless to write in Hungarian – so slowly I started to turn my site into English only. I started to write my dreams, and my thoughts, and about my friends. As time passed I lost my love, lost a few of my friends, and for a short time I stopped blogging – When I came back I started to write about anything what came into my mind - and I do the same ever since.
And why do I do it? To help ppl – to show them “the other side” of things, and to express myself – and also to improve my English.
hmm... good question. Show the world my world, a little about me and the things I adore and also the things I dislike. To see what the rest of the real people are up to in the rest of the world. To share the simple joys that make me smile and be an active participant of the bigger picture of the wonderful world we live in and meet new real people and share their joys and also their upsets. Share a bit of the culture of where I live.
err.... is I have nothing better to do an option? Actually my first blog was alot of dark poetry and my cynical view of the world.. then I stopped for about a year.. came back.. deleted everything and started a joke blog.. I had alot of jokes laying around so I started with that but I changed it to pics I get via email.. So even though I post about a fraction of what I get via email I'd say I blog to share some fun with people.. everyone needs a laugh..

I never thought of it as a habit.. I just realised that this is maybe the only 'hobby'I find true satisfaction of.. And which lasted longer than a week..
I started a blog, not planning on keeping it long. Thought it would only be a temporary thing that wouldn't last long. I wanted to share things about my life, news, whatever was on my mind. I've had so much fun with the good people of Opera, that I decided to keep it going and here I still am.

I been a member since feb 2006 this is my first post. You could say i'm a bit of a voyeur then. I get to read peoples thoughts from all over the world.
I think people post blogs because they feel a sense of connection with the world when other people read their thoughts. The world has become a very small place. It doesn't matter where you live or who you are everyone has the same needs..
basic human wants and needs are the same, no matter what you are surrounded with..be it a nice car...jewels...money...or if you are less fortunate... I think stuggle and pain can really be the same from anywhere and everywhere, that is one reason I don't understand the anger of men and war.
Ohh Ok...like some.... When I started I never thought that I would really like to know what is going on in other's lives, and still now I would rather read about art and culture and poems. When I read about other's personal lives, I feel a little guilty, sort of like opening the diary that is in their room. When I was younger, I was confronted with the reality that my diary was not private... and that happening to a 15 year old is nothing short of devastation.
I started blogging because I began using the Opera browser.
This led to me discovering the Opera Community.
This led me to figure that a blog here seemed like a neat place to whack some of my short stories, so I'd have some sort of online backup (given how often I used to crash my computer by tinkering with the registry).
However ...
... I think I continue blogging because of the simple fact that I lucked out when I found the Opera Community as a blog host site first ... !
Generally speaking, I've found the people at the OC to be decent, intelligent, positive, inspiring, open-minded folks.
And the name "Opera Community" is spot on, too, because there is a real sense of community here (as opposed to some other blog hosting sites that seem very cold, distant and almost elitist). Which is all the more amazing (to me, at least), considering we're all from different parts of the world!
(I can be easily amazed, sometimes).
There's ease of use (I love BB Code) and maintenance ...
Also ... mainstream media can often bombard us with examples of the worst humanity can offer, and this can lead to a cynical (or, at least, despondent) view of humanity in general.
(Well, okay ... it can with me, anyway).
Being part of the Opera Community - communicating with the decent folks here, or, at the very least, reading the thoughts they share with us - reminds me that - of course - not everyone is 'bad news material'. Which (IMO) is something it doesn't hurt for us all to be reminded of from time to time.
And, of course, blogging is fun (the vast majority of the time)!
Hmm ... let's boil this down:
- Place to store my writings
- Ease of use
- Sense of community, one which is - for the vastly most part) peopled by decent folk
- Antidote to the negativity the mainstream media can often engender
I agree with the 'sense of community' It's a warm and wonderful place to be, also I feel that most of the blogs I visit I really feel as if I am coming into their home and being a little part of their life. Sometimes I feel so safe here....and then google butts in...but besides that little detail, I love it here.
Thank God there are not blinking disgusting adds pasted over the front page and in our side bars! I wouldn't trade that for the world.
"The community" reminds me of a dream I had....(really weird) I was walking around this little town...and I could see clearly all different styles of houses, each with their own special look and colors. But at each door way was an open diary book..huge..so that you could read about each person before even walking into their home. It was quite the site.. I could see some walking and talking together and then others just browsing by each home, looking at the diary and moving on.
I then realized that I was dreaming about this place...and that maybe I needed to get off line for a while.

I also really enjoy the free exchange of ideas (i.e., comments to blogs) that you find in blogging. This, to me, is the epitome of free speech.
