[A Ride on the Dashboard of my Vehicle]
In the darkness we creep out...the neighborhood is still sleeping for the most part except for those that are just stirring to prepare for work. It is still pitch black out and I have to admit..I love witnessing the slow beginning beat of the city at 6 am. Large work trucks on the road hauling goods to different parts of the country, smaller local trucks, Fed-Ex and UPS darting around in their normal spastic manner. The lights are still burning by the highway, tall and non consuming energy thanks to their solar panels, they guide my way as I speed down the interstate. About 2 years ago I heard of an accident where a man was absolutely made into road kill during an early hour such as this. So this is a fear of mine...that a homeless is going to be walking and dart out in a drunken stupor. I just pray for the angels to always be with us as we drive, the statistics are not good overall. So we are super careful to say the least!

In the car I am usually cold but other hot bloods that surround me want the air conditioner on! So beginning the fight...air or no air...air or no air. You would think because I am the parent their would be no argument on who will have the final say. But I prefer not to come to blows and we both settle on a comfortable medium. It is still black out as I come upon road construction!
Oh well.

I reach the destination and drop off the sometimes evil teenager...and enjoy my quiet ride home...ALONE! The silence is welcome especially when you are the brunt of everything that goes wrong in her life. I'd like to really know...how does it become the mother's fault all of a sudden? Why does the mother have to carry the burden of "MOM! you misplaced my paper,MOM, you didn't put my pencil in my backpack, MOM! you didn't tell me that must be finished." And when do they take the responsibility on for themselves? Never?

Almost home......

Thanks for riding!!

My mother taught us to clean up after ourselves and do our own chores. There is a basic principle here: you don't burden other people with your own dirty work. It's a simple matter of respect for others.
Both my parents came from farms where all of the work had to be done all the time in order for the farm to keep everyone fed. If one fell down in her duties, others would have to pick up the slack.
Of course, an urban family is not quite the same. If your child doesn't get his homework in on time, no one is going to go hungry. But if you keep doing your children's cleanup chores for them, they will grow up believing that they are entitled to take the best and leave everyone else the rest. But that is a set of values that prevails throughout the entire middle class; so, if you want them to fit in, you have to raise them like all the rest.
I work in the service industry, and put up with the results of this type of parenting on a daily basis.

Our kids are required to do chores as well as finish their homework each day. They are busy with sports as well, sometimes it feels that there is not enough hours in the day...as well as their extra activities they are plum out by evening. We believe in manners, respect and so on.
