Back Mishap

Yesterday was extraordinarily difficult. My eldest daughter, who has previously had issues with her sciatic nerve in her back, experienced trouble with it yesterday.
She was on the floor in typical child fashion, stretching and playing like a comfortable cat when suddenly she cries out in pain and sits up quickly. She was having a hard time to even speak as to what was troubling her. I was no less than freaked out to think she could have injured herself another time.
You know immediately when a person is truly suffering. I could absolutely see pain seeping through her body and being reflected in her big brown eyes. Slumped against my bed, she couldn’t move and her legs were tucked underneath her in a distorted fashion. So what do I do?
I called my mother.
She advised me to put an ice pack on her back and keep her still. Fearfully I asked my daughter if she could move her toes, fearing the worse. She moved her toes!
Ok, good start…but when she tried to move her legs at all, her face became pale and she looked as though she was going to pass out. My mother was there in less than 10 minutes, we called the EMT’s to come have a look at her and advise us on what action to take. My youngest was completely worried about her big sister and stayed by us constantly repeating, “I love Rachael, I love her, I love my big sister, I am going with her.” Ok! So that almost caused me to lose it. When a child is expressing fear and concern for another human, I get really emotional! My twins were not so concerned…they was actually in the living room playing the ‘Sims Castaway’.
Good for them to be so relaxed….
I think!
So, the two young EMT guys helped us get her to the car and we spent 3 hours at the hospital emergency room in urgent care. After being examined by a very sweet and spunky female doctor,
they gave her a shot of muscle relaxer and pain medication in her upper buttocks area.
I felt my knees become wobbly as I saw the nurse plunge the needle deep into the muscle.
It was pretty weird, I must say. After having 4 kids, you think I would get used to it. No mother ever gets over seeing their child in pain. It is the morning after and currently she is resting comfortably on the couch under a blanket and watching “Ice Age”. I am here on the love seat typing. (she mentioned that she knew I would blog this experience)

My very good friend is going to be induced tomorrow to have her baby… I planned on going to see her today, Sunday, but instead, I will go this week, so that I will be able to see the baby as well.
Of course I am bringing my camera! Below is a picture of my daughter with a light on her face that says ‘love’.

honestly, I am angry at the whole situation...I don't know what is causing it and I am really sad for her....just trying to 'fix it'. *sigh*

I have two twisted vertebra in my lower back from sleeping on a bed that was not level. The very slightest angle of the bed caused the muscles in my right side (lower back, hip and hamstrings) to stay contracted or tight for about 6 months which caused the vertebra to twist slightly. After numerous visits to the chiroquack I do not deal with too much discomfort, so maybe he wasnt a quack afterall. No permenent damage but it causes quite a bit of discomfort and lots of stretching is the only fix, note that is the same area as the "sciatic nerve".

I now sleep on a stiffer mattress, but that is something that would be based on the individual person.
