Feeding a crowd....

, , , ,

I was led to Sandy's Post by Kimber's blog and thought it would be sort of cool to do the same thing...

Feeding a family of 6, our meals vary so much each week. Some weeks we'll have more fish than others, some more red meat, some more chicken..just depends on our mood and what we want to cook. This week happens to be the 'red meat' week..obviously. I do think that prices have a ton to do with how our menu for the week will go.

Typical meat in the freezer...
hamburger meat, stew meat, roast (always for Sunday), chicken breast, sausage, smoked sausage.

Prepackaged salad,frozen fresh peas,frozen green beans,chopped green peppers,green onions,avocados,celery,yellow onions,broccoli.

Random things....
chili, coffee, sugar free coffee mate, yogurt, random fruits, tasty rice chips, rice, beans, tortillas, potatoes and onions, cheese, carrots, grapes and pasta.

Oh...canned fruit and sardines (usually we'll have tuna and salmon as well)

Can't live without peanut butter and jelly. up

Well that was interesting and fun....now everyone else do it. bigsmile

No bread? Looks very healthy though. up

galadriel Thursday, February 7, 2008 4:44:01 AM

Nice post! Have you tried peanut butter and cheese? It's yummy smile

I don't think I have ever tasted a sardine...I prefer tuna Mmm.

By sausage, do you mean mince; mushed up meat?

Ramuteramute Thursday, February 7, 2008 9:23:47 AM

Everything looks eatable and tasty. But we do not eat peanut butter.

Love, Ramute.
smile

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, February 7, 2008 11:06:00 AM

Karen, did ya go have some lunch? smile

Jose.... I am hispanic after all...so yeah.

L...chef I would love to open a can by your nose....no one in the house likes them but me. They sort of gag when they see the shiny sardine skin, and I break it apart to put it on a cracker...yummy.

Sandy, yes we buy bread.. sort of forgot to pick some up. But the tortillas are bread. Do you ever have tortillas? They are typically used exactly like bread...but you would roll your sandwich.

Kimbers, no actually I haven't tried that...hmmmm I love cheese but have to say I have never tried it with pb. I will TRY to try it. lol

Ramute,
Is there a reason you don't have Peanut Butter or you don't like it?

huh?! Ok what the hell?
leave the comments again..I don't know what is going on with Opera. sad

galadriel Thursday, February 7, 2008 12:01:58 PM

Yes, definately try it. I thought it would be horrible but I was pleasantly surprised.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, February 7, 2008 12:03:44 PM

You know...I think it is the texture that would bother me more. Do you use the soft sliced cheese or the harder block?

galadriel Thursday, February 7, 2008 12:06:29 PM

I used thinly sliced cheddar cheese from a block. You could use soft sliced cheese too. However, I don't think fancy cheese would work.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, February 7, 2008 12:13:41 PM

Ok up we'll try it, thanks for the tip. Sounds
like a well rounded snack as well. up

Leonardavl_wamp Thursday, February 7, 2008 1:07:06 PM

Looks good, I luv spicy ethnic foods. I kinda like dishes that are a mix of hot and sweet. chef

Ramuteramute Thursday, February 7, 2008 4:06:10 PM

Sarah, Peanut butter is not popular in my country and it is difficult to find it and to buy. When I was in America, I liked it.

Love, Ramute.
smile

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, February 7, 2008 6:12:39 PM

Leo, Me too! up Asian being my favorite...

Ramute, Thank you. Ok, that is so strange. I was thinking peanut butter was popular all over the world. It is actually a very healthy snack. up

your shopping is almost identical to mine... the only difference is i don't buy the packaged veggies and salad. i just get everything loose and put it in those little bags with ties. i don't see any shallots... mmm try shallots.

galadriel Friday, February 8, 2008 3:07:34 AM

We buy our vegetables loose too and then just put them straight into the 'vegetable storage compartment' in the fridge...where they just go rotten sad

scott cummingIArtMan Friday, February 8, 2008 4:01:40 AM

you're supposed to eat them in time. it's tricky, i know. don't buy more than you can use. it helps to have a juicer.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Friday, February 8, 2008 11:58:40 AM

Scott,
What is not bought today will be bought tomorrow...lol. We do like to buy the green beans, peas, sometimes broccoli, and corn frozen because it is much better than eating the canned stuff that is full of salt and sugar. It shouldn't be legal!

smile

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Friday, February 8, 2008 12:00:19 PM

Kimbers,
lol but I think you eat a lot of good things, so you should be ok. It's funny, I prefer veggies over fruits. But I did have an orange yesterday! up Fruits are just too tangy for my taste buds. I like bland stuff....
smile

scott cummingIArtMan Friday, February 8, 2008 4:14:52 PM

i have lots of canned vegetables from the food bank. but i can't get myself to eat it.

MarcusFXM256 Friday, February 8, 2008 11:03:07 PM

Wow all that food looks so good! chef Now, I'm hungry for some reason. whistle

devansdevans186 Friday, February 8, 2008 11:22:11 PM

Cake, pie..........PeanutButter M&M's?smile

galadriel Saturday, February 9, 2008 1:12:18 AM

Rhona Kirstenrhona Saturday, February 9, 2008 12:21:55 PM

My fav peanut butter is Skippy but when the war started, they stopped importing it.

Does anyone know why it's called Skippy? right

( psst.. Sarah, it worked!! bigsmile )

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Saturday, February 9, 2008 1:23:50 PM

Dave, I hid it....

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Saturday, February 9, 2008 1:25:10 PM

Rhona, Ok...I was starting to wonder...because you have been on my friend list for some time now, and there should have been no reason.
Anyway, yes Skippy is good...creamy and soft. I have no clue why it is actually called Skippy, though. lol

galadriel Sunday, February 10, 2008 3:23:08 AM

I've never heard of Skippy peanut butter...

Some health food shops here have peanut butter machines. There is a container of peanuts up the top, you push the button and put a container under the spout and it mashes them all up to make some peanut butter, crunchy style smile

MarcusFXM256 Sunday, February 10, 2008 3:25:59 AM

I've seen that in some health food stores too Kim. smile

Nigel CliffCaptainPenguin Sunday, February 10, 2008 4:06:35 PM

Just an observation on the ammount of pre packed and obviously supermarket food here,I know its the same with many people here in the UK but do you have independent Butchers and Greengrocers or farm Shops in the USA where you can by meat and vegetables that are not pre packed

Rhona Kirstenrhona Tuesday, February 12, 2008 4:16:05 AM

Here Kim smile

Just about all that food is in my household fridge. I do bring in and eat the avocados. They are a luscious food. My family members have never tasted them. They just look at them and ask, "What is that"?

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Tuesday, February 12, 2008 5:09:26 PM

I am the only one that will touch avocados as well...they are so fresh and delicious.

galadriel Wednesday, February 13, 2008 12:20:36 AM

It looks familiar Rhona

Avocados are legandary! I used to think they'd taste weird...but then i actually tried one and loved it bigsmile I still have some friends who refuse to taste them.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, February 13, 2008 1:00:04 PM

Yeah, lol, they do look a little slimy and green sometimes...but yummy.

galadriel Thursday, February 14, 2008 12:09:38 AM

Sometimes they're a little brown and yuck, but otherwise great smile

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, February 14, 2008 5:50:47 PM

a good avocado is slightly soft and green....just a head's up.
