Getting Prepared for Girl's Back to School. Not a Sunny Post.

, , ,

Ok I have to get a few things off of my chest. I am getting really upset at the sunny disposition of so many people when the economy is so bad. Yeah, I trust in God. I was raised to do that. But where are the people that are out for a change? Seems as if they are few and far between. I just paid an electric bill that was 490.00 up from a normal 175.00 or so. Enjoy the money electric company, hope you are happy that you took part of the money I was going to use to buy my kid's school clothes. The kids have been extra bored this summer. Not that they are lacking things to do, but we are not able to travel as much as the summers before. Oh waaaa! Right? When you are raised to live a certain way and that is taken away from you because of high cost of gas and energy prices, yeah I am gonna waaa for a while. If you don't like it then don't read.

We have tried everything we can to save money. When you go to the store and end up spending all this money on a few meals, it is almost enough to BREAK a person! scared OH ALL THAT AND EAT HEALTHY TOO. That is what the commercials say! Eat healthy. The freakin' government tells us to eat low fat, eat more fruits and veggies, but what happens when you can't afford it? OK my mistake I had 4 kids! So now they must suffer for being born in a country that is supposed to be one of the greatest in the world? My husband and I have always worked hard to provide for our children.

I do realize that we are blessed beyond belief but I also see the down part of all the riches in this country. Seeing the DIFFERENCE between the have and have-not is mortifying. It is not like I live in the projects where life is hot, long and stressful. But I have SEEN it. OH? They should be happy they have housing? Oh yeah. That's the answer. irked

I suppose life will always be full of differences in money and economy.

To be honest, I am despising my blog lately and I think I will move it. Or maybe not. I don't know. There are great blogs and writers that deserve to be read. I think I need to leave it to the professionals...I don't know anymore. I am pissed that everything cost so much and it's just sad that there are so many people needing things and I can't even help them. Every last drop of our money is going to our house and what we need here for the girls and paying bills.

If you have any extra money, donate to back to school causes. PLEASE!!! Even if it is 5 dollars, you will be helping more than you even know. There are families out there that don't even have 1 dollar to spare on back to school things!

I am going to donate the girls clothes that they don't fit anymore that are in still good condition. And only pray that someone can use it.

great blog, sarah!!! u already know how i feel about "the man" and how gas and utilities are being manipulated! keep up the struggle! spock

maddysman2003 Friday, August 8, 2008 3:00:06 PM

I have switched to mostly store brands which are cheaper. But I hate it that milk is actually more than a gallon of gas now. Of course feeding four children is a lot more than just the two of us. As for the travel I am lucky to have moved to Florida so everyday seems like a vacation. That is of course when it is not pouring down rain or storming.

Mad Scientist (عادل)qlue Friday, August 8, 2008 3:24:08 PM

Milk may cost one than petrol, but petrol is gaining ground fast! scared .
Life is tough, and it looks set to get a lot tougher.
We recently experienced a country wide strike in protest against rising food and energy costs. I don't believe striking is the answer but with half the country already below the breadline, this is a disaster just waiting to happen. cry

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Friday, August 8, 2008 4:20:54 PM

Siran, Thanks. spock

Brian, Lucky you....I actually LOVE rain. Mmm maybe I would get tired of it eventually. Yes....the kids are complaining as I write this that there is no more milk. Gotta go to the store!

Aadil, so true. I wish that my country would do the same!

Damn !awww what is the world coming to irked let`s kill us all scared faint

MichaelSuperGeek Friday, August 8, 2008 7:43:52 PM

Hi Sarah,

I can definetly understand your frustration. We become accustomed to what we have. In fact, people who suffer physical abuse often choose to stay in that situation because it is what they know.

As for gasoline prices and energy prices, nobody likes those being where they are either - except the people with enough money to speculate in the oil/energy market. And if I was one of them, I can't say I wouldn't be doing the same. I would like to think not, but I can't guarantee it.

I don't subscribe to many conspiracy theories. I still believe we did go to the moon and that the rovers are on Mars. The run on the banks that started the Great Depression was a problem because people no longer had faith in the dollar. I don't think it was the Bolsheviks.

My grandmother was alive in the Great Depression. She didn't even know that it happened except for the news. Life was the same before, during, and after it for her. They had family and the food that they grew. They were 12 kids in a two room shack with sharecropper parents. They walked to the one room school house with no shoes, unless they had to stay home and work.

I'll be honest. I'm not going to fill in the details, but things could get ugly here real fast. If the grace that I'm privildged with holds out for three more years, we'll probably be okay. I'll never retire, but we'll get by.

But my standard of living is high. It is as high probably for my generation as it has ever been. I pay for cable TV and Internet. I'm typing this on my cell phone. We have more vehicles than drivers. If I trimmed back the fat for my household, then we would have no worries, just like my grandmother's family. They had nothing, but they had food and family.

I agree that people need to change. I believe that change is coming. It won't come through elections. It will only come from people who see their neighbor as family and are concerned for them as such - and today's neighborhood is global. This is what I believe, but I'm not there yet. So, you can call me a hypocrite. Just make sure you include that i'm trying not to be.

We won't be perfect, but we can be better. You've shown that by committing to donate what you can no longer use. It's social responsibility not social security which is the answer.

"You must be the change that you want to see in the world."

"Greater love has no man that he should lay down his life for his friend."

You know how lucky you are. I feel your frustration. I hope that we will all grow through these times. Peace.

I was meaning to encourage. Without your blog, I may not have seen my blessings today.

Hey Sarah! You know I can relate right?
*hugs*
The other day I had a very strange feeling come over me..and I know it was God.
I just thought..I wonder if I just start giving stuff away..I mean, giving extra clothes, food, money whatever it is, no matter how big or small...
It's a principal..so I give...and it ends up coming back to me..
I think I'll start doing it. smile (not so I can get back...but it is what ends up happening)
It'll take my mind off of these things---the world isn't getting better..and as you have said..you are giving your kids handmedowns away! That's the beginning. Let's get the ball rolling! heart

I completely relate to what you're saying, Sarah...only you said it way more eloquently than I could. love

I see that you've gotten a few really nice comments filled with lots of wisdom. I'm sorry that I lack wisdom to share with you, but what I do have to offer you is my unconditional friendship. smile

Hang in there. Things always get worse before they get better, so maybe we're gearing up for a really awesome time to come!

Amir, It's not that serious. Although......

Michael,

This is true. I think it is how we were raised. My husband is closer to your age and he never lacked for anything growing up. He father worked in the construction industry so his standard of living is also high. He wants what he wants what he wants. To just put it out there nicely. Thanks and I really like your style of writing, I will be visiting your blog as often as you post.
smile

Cheryl, This is a community action...giving what you can. up I totally believe in it and hope that more do it. I am part of a yahoo group called 'freecycle'. People give freely without expecting anything in return. Also to be part of the group you are 'required' to give as well. Give and take. smile It's actually where I acquired my dog Cinnamon.

Jose, smile For me taking a break is being away for 2 days. p

Carol, thanks heart Bless you

Karen, Your so positive! p Thanks chica. Well, we are on this sort of steady pace right now. Thank God it is not getting worse than just now. I was feeling it when the gas prices shot up about 2 weeks ago. It has to be God, because I don't know how we are doing it. love

Cois, thanks. smile

oh i really never thought people living in US would one day write something like this....... as generally in East people have a very positive image of the people living in US ..... but sometimes i think 'the world is not enough' - its more or less the same, its sometimes more media hype than truth - taking the case of my country also.

but you are right bills are going up - especially gas. Also more wars are going up ..... may be if wars stop gas can become cheaper as instead of those stupid tanks and armour vehicles we can run our peaceful cars for civilian purposes up - Mr.Bush are you reading? left zip whistle

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, August 14, 2008 2:08:17 PM

I doubt he's reading.

maddysman2003 Thursday, August 14, 2008 5:30:01 PM

You make a good point snake, it is a matter of perspective. Americans in general are spoiled so when they have to make a change in their way of life such as paying more for gas, they don't like it and they expect someone to do something about it.

Ever since Mr. Bush learned that Al Gore invented the internet, he has tried to avoid it.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, August 14, 2008 9:34:47 PM

Mmm Hmmm I agree. We are spoiled.

Zaki Khanliquid snake Wednesday, August 20, 2008 8:47:57 AM

no no i am sorry , i never intended to hurt Americans - it was just my opinion on wars, may be Mr.Osama and Israel PM should also read this zip whistle shhh Mossad agents could be reading left zip whistle faint

how about they all discuss it on a round table (and try sorting it out- atleast they can give it a try! rolleyes ) rather than with AK's

well i dont know if Americans are spoiled or not but putting a restriction on something which had been a necessary luxury sometimes gets tough for our big egos - in this case we all are included.

like 1 man traveling in a 8-cylinder SUV ,our so called film 'stars' travel in private jets to give lecture on global warming and carbon, the G-8 guys come to meet ,again in their beloved jets to discuss issues without any solution being ever implemented.

hmm how about putting an end to motor sport races like F1 or super bike grand prix - common people will be more than happy to utilise that fuel also and it be the prices come down a bit. but i bet nobody would agree p lol

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, August 20, 2008 2:16:23 PM

The rich like to do rich things.

maddysman2003 Wednesday, August 20, 2008 2:21:57 PM

I don't think it is an insult to be spoiled. You get accustomed to a way of life and that is what you expect. But when I am paying $4.50 a gallon for milk, I just remember there are people in the world that didn't eat today.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, August 20, 2008 2:28:20 PM

Mmm we do thank God for every meal....everyone should.
