Ooooo The Big Three.....
Friday, November 21, 2008 3:57:32 PM
Brian reminded me of the conversation I had with my husband last night while driving...
We were discussing the Big Three and how they so casually took their private jets to Washington to take a handout from taxpayers.
YES! YOU! You, Americans who work everyday and struggle to feed your children....and *ahem* go shopping.
HEY! It's the American way! It's my right to go to the mall and buy useless things such as poorly made jewelry and shoes that were more than likely made in a sweat factory overseas! It is my right to be able to haul my kids around in a minivan that costs me a total of about ...um....$20,000.
The price of a G4 jet flight to and from Washington! ONE trip!
My husband says "$20,000 isn't so much for millionaires."
Me, "I agree, but put into perspective how MUCH $20,000 is to YOU."
So...You are working 5 years to pay off the minivan that pays the salary of the CEO's. Yes...5 years of your hard work...sucked up in one flight. Mmm I hope he had wine on the flight, a good cheese, some tasty crackers. I do hope that his fight was comfortable with no air disturbance. I hope his flight went well without any worries. I hope that the bathroom worked properly. I hope the carpets were clean. I hope he had a fluffy pillow and a warm blanket to lay on his lap. BECAUSE WE PAID FOR IT! I demand quality DAMNIT! If MY money is going to go to a cause, let it go to luxury!
You people of American...most of you...barely make your house payment...car payment...food...and guess what? It is all for charity of the rich. They made it to the top and we are all their little worker ants.
Accept it...love it...and keep working hard so the rich can become richer.
Of course we are comfortable compared to 'most' of the world. But trust me, we are paying for it and our children will be as well.
Do NOT bail the Big Three out! Let them fail and begin a learning experience....let THEM figure out a better way to do things.

That's the way things go; the rich get rich and the poor get poorer. If you took away everyone's money and then gave everyone in the world $100,000, everyone would be back to where they were after a short time. Those who know how to 'work' with money, would have invested it and become rich. Some people would have allowed people to exploit them, and would have become poor. Some people would have 'invested' their money at the casino and come away with nothing. Others would have spent it on a plasma TV, renovated their kitchen, bought epensive shower tap handles, bought cigarettes...then they complain that their poor.
I don't have a problem with bank executives being rich as a result of getting a degree, working hard and then getting to the top. I have a problem with people getting rich the 'Paris Hilton' way, where they do absolutely nothing and get money from Mum and Dad!

It's all nice to buy what you want, but how many buy what they actually need?
All the stuff people buy, useless crap, all comes with a big price in the long run... the useless crap, because it was in style for awhile, ending up in land fills... and yet, the big three, who don't really care about such details such as our environments, making sure that future generations have proper education, reasonably good living conditions etc.
I don't know, just a rant. We have similar situations in Portugal. Personally , I think it's sad.
The weird part, it was like only 15 years ago, here on the islands, people used to buy only what they needed. There was few luxuries people could obtain, financially and even it's availability to the public. Things change so fast. Suddenly there is a flood of useless crap in the markets, people buying it, replacing it left right and center. And no one wonders where it all ends up in the end. Personally I think it's a bit irresponsible. I used to be like that, but, I decided it was better to change. Only buy what I need.

It has been a long time since I was able to buy 'useless crap' as you say. Having 4 kids and choosing to be a stay at home mom has prevented me from going on crazy shopping sprees, etc. Mmm makes me wonder how life would be if I was rich....*dreaming*
I can't speak for others....I think it is extremely wasteful as well and I personally wouldn't do it.

The 500 pound gorilla in the room is the UAW. It isn't just mismanagement or bad development processes that have hurt this industry. They also have to pay a ridiculous wage and benefits package to their workers.

Thanks for your comment. I completely believe, without a doubt, that 1 in every 10 jobs is connected to the auto industry. A contributor to pollution!
Anyhoo....Can't wait to see how things turn out...
