Typical title...Happy New Year...What is your family's tradition?
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 9:40:50 PM
This is how our's plays out.
Cook black eyed peas all day with a bit of ham.
Simmer the cabbage in separate pot.
Mix up the cornbread!
Sounds so simple, huh? I can't wait to spend time with the family and watching the girls choke down one or two pieces of cabbage and black eyed peas.
They hate that stuff, but it brings good luck and wealth, we must do it.
What is your family's New Year's Tradition?
Happy 2009 to everyone. I hope that you make one change, and stick to it.
This time last year, I was still smoking.
In January, I will be 1 year completely smoke free. The best thing I have ever done for myself.

My resolution is to be more realistic about myself.
No tradition at our house. When I was young we used to make caramel popcorn balls. Sooo tasty!
Happy 2009!

Congrats on having stopped smoking, too! You deserve bunches of hugs and backpats for that!
Have a great 2009!

When I lived in Philly, I could get all the ingredients needed for my kind of New Years meal. I moved to a suburban borough 15 miles outside of Philly where I can find ham hocks every now and then in the food markets. None of the food markets here sell chitterlings. I have to go back to Philly to buy them.
I never had black eyed peas seasoned with chili powder. That would be something different, which I will be trying.

We always go to my aunt's to ring in the New Year. There's lots of food, lots of people. In Canada we would play card games, Chase the Ace was a favourite. In Ireland we'd have a bit of a session, no instruments just singing.
In Ireland, bacon and cabbage is popular. But I dont' care much for boiled cabbage either.

I know I said that already.. Anyhow--cool traditions &
We normally rent a couple of movies, and eat like pigs... Loads of chicken wings..and other yummy normally frozen deep fried stuff that can be heated in the oven.
Major Congrats on being a year smoke free!! You deserve a treat for that!
Last year my accomplishment was living healthier, more excercise and losing weight. I think I lost a total of almost 30 lbs. I have kinda gotten lax about the whole thing.
I am determined to get back on that--and be sure to stay active and do what's right for me physically and spiritually.
