Doing the Ironing

, ,

I am a huge fan of this blog, "Things Your Grandmother Knew" and wanted to share with you one of the post, "Ironing Making a Comeback?" I decided to take down the ironing board from the very tip top of my laundry closet and dust off the old iron! I haven't used the iron in ages!

How many of you iron any of your clothing? While doing laundry, I left the iron out on the hottest setting with a cup of water on the side to continually fill the steam part of it. I don't even know what that is called!

I ironed one of my favorite sheets and thought it turned out so pretty! (but that doesn't mean I will be ironing sheets in the future!

The sheet before.

The sheet after.

While I was doing that, Cinnamon sat beside me...bored as a dog could be. :D

Well give it ago at your own sheets. Supposedly ironing sheets kills dust mites. Not that we have any, we just got all new mattresses. But I don't see myself busting out all the sheets that are in the linen closet just yet....:eyes:

If you want to iron your own sheets follow this link for some helpful hints. CLICK!

Sarah, I use to love to iron sheets and especially pillowcases with spray starch, they come out so nice and easy to iron too when you use it. :D
:sst: Even new mattress can have dust mites.

Don't you ironing shirts and jeans?

angel292005 12. January 2009, 13:33

Carol, :yuck:

Pineas2, Yes.

Dacotah 12. January 2009, 14:16

What Sarah? That's what I saw on tv about matresses.

rjfink 12. January 2009, 14:20

You GO, Sarah! How productive! You rock.

Personally, I LOVE to iron. I know; I'm a freak. But it's a Zen kind of thing with me...making a wrinkled, horrid-looking garment come out beautifully smooth and new. Plus, I cannot stand to wear clothes with wrinkles! I cannot say that I've ever ironed my sheets, but mine are the t-shirt material kind right now, so they don't really get wrinkles. They s-t-r-e-t-c-h over the mattress and look nice no matter what.

And the steam thingie is called the water reservoir.

Steam is our friend!

Carol...yuck means gross to dust mites. I have seen those little buggers up close on TV and they look mighty nasty!

angel292005 12. January 2009, 14:48

RJ,
:D I did enjoy ironing the jeans. p: I couldn't believe how much better they looked, actually. But the girls grabbed them and wore then right away, so it was sort of like :yikes: GO GET YOUR PLAY CLOTHES! Working harder on clothes sort of does make you more careful with them.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you are having a good Monday.

Dacotah 12. January 2009, 14:52

Yes they are :yuck:
I've seen them on tv too.

Pineas2 12. January 2009, 18:39

Wife just killed the iron.

rjfink 12. January 2009, 18:41

Dust mites look like mutated alien lobsters. EWWWW!! bug
I'm having a GINORMOUSLY FREAKING AWESOME Monday!! How 'bout YEWWW? :hat:

angel292005 12. January 2009, 18:44

Pineas2, What?! :yikes: that totally sucks! Why would your wife KILL the iron? Maybe she doesn't like ironing!

angel292005 12. January 2009, 18:47

RJ,
lol, I agree! Oh, my Monday is going so much better now that I have been to the emergency room for my back. I am on steroids, pain killers and muscle relaxers, so yeah...I am feeling pretty darn tootin' good. :D
:hat:

I don't know why and how but it is definitely dead. It was at 10 Euros 1 year ago and it is still under warranty. So they will have to replace it

I hate ironing...
I do iron when I take the nicer dress shirts out of the pile of laundry.
(I try to get shirts out of the dryer a bit damp so they can hang to straighten as much as possible even so I still might need to pass an iron. :irked: )
I have never ironed sheets.. My son learned how to iron because he had to for cadets...I told him I wasn't doing it for him! p:

angel292005 13. January 2009, 16:26

Pineas, Mmm good luck getting another so YOU can help her!! :D

angel292005 13. January 2009, 16:30

Cheryl,
Good idea to get the shirts out early. :D Usually, as soon as my dryer is finished I put the clothing RIGHT onto hangers and hung up in the laundry room. Thank God I have a clothes rack in the laundry room.
Anyway....I have never ironed sheets before either. I don't think this is going to be a normal practice of mine...so yeah.

Nerak 13. January 2009, 18:06

I think I will do this! Thank you for the idea...sounds like a killer thing to do. I love the feeling of a freshly made bed with crisp sheets! :o:

BTW - C & you got a new mattress, too? I thought it was only the girls! Congratulations...I bet it felt like a little slice of Heaven the first few nights you curled up in it. Is it soft or firm? Oh...and is it nice and bouncy?

angel292005 13. January 2009, 23:06

Karen, yes! God blessed us with a great deal on a brand new king size mattress! I totally spaced on telling you!!!

Nerak 13. January 2009, 23:09

:o: King sized even! That is so awesome! :D

Pineas2 14. January 2009, 07:45

Angel, I normally do all my laundry and ironing myself. I am also able to operate the dish washer and the hoover. Indeed I got a 16 months training on house holding.
