the orange thing is a gas bottle by the way, for heating water and cooking. We have them in Portugal also.

here we use butane. but it is used for household purposes in France, Portugal and I think Spain has them also, but I never noticed. Also on yachts, but American yachts who use propane have to switch to butane when they're in Portufal. Propane just isn't available. They just have to make some small alteration on the switch mechanism.

America is one of the few countries that has the gas pumped through pipes.
