The Dead Beta Fish

, , , ,

Well...I guess our Beta Fish just died. I changed his water this morning and put 'clear water' in there, as we normally do.... He seemed really fine at first, swimming around happily.

I checked on him about 2 hours later and he was floating. bigeyes I poked him, but he sort of twitched and went to the bottom...then slowly floated head first, body down. It was weird. Eh.. anyway I flushed him and said a little prayer. He was with us for about a year now...poor guy. sad I guess I could have buried him in the back, but he was sort of still twitching, I would have felt bad.

Bye little guy! (I never named him, bad fish karma)

My husband and I got my daughter a Samsung Behold phone. I opened it this morning when FedEx delivered it (although my daughter informed me that she wanted to open it) rolleyes I wanted to have it charged for her before she got home from school. It's a graduation present. She just recently graduated from Jr.High and she did a wonderful job the whole way through. She is entering highschool so I really think that she needs a reliable cell phone for pics, messaging etc.

Meg, my sis, thought that it was a little excessive. But in my opinion it's not, because most kids don't even have to graduate to get a phone! They can just give their parents puppy dog eyes and get what they want. lol So...I think she is going to love it. Also Meghan and I decided that we are going to save for a trip to New York as a High School graduation present for her! party I am excited about it! In 4 years.....

Anyway...this is the last week of school for all the girls. smile It will be so nice to have lazy mornings before the beginning of the new school year in August. happy I am just excited in general for my girls....the twins will be going to Jr.High and my oldest to High School. I can't believe that I am writing it...Someday I will be telling you guys about them going to college. love So...just get used to me! p I am going to be here for a while.

love
-Sarah

My father would have said "it was just your duty" about the good grades. But I got a new bike from my grandfather when I went to high school (which happened at 13 back then).

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:28:13 PM

up A new bike would be an awesome gift. happy She is 14 and wants to drive already. I try to tell her to sloooow down and enjoy her younger years.

KarenNerak Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:35:20 PM

rip

It's cool that you got her a phone. We've refused to get either of our kids phones. Jameson's 17. If he wants a phone, he can go get a freakin' job and buy it. Sunny's 11. No 11 year old needs a phone. We're not budging, either. p

Casey²dragonharrower Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:37:13 PM

Poor betta fish. sad

That's a great graduation gift for her. yes

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:38:46 PM

Here you can't get a car or big motorbike driving license until you are 18 (the age when you can vote and you are officially adult). Even then, there are limitation about the vehicle power.
From 13 you can ride small scooters, from 16 bigger scooter and small motorbikes.

I see teenagers nowadays are different from my old days. At 13 I was still playing with marbles and toy soldiers. I am reading today they already have sex at wild parties, drink, take drugs and such.

Besides, me and my friends did not have any money and spent our times playing some sports or just talking and making stupid jokes.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:43:39 PM

I totally understand your thinking that way Karen. After all, it's not like she is a little princess or something. lol When I was growing up, I had to pay for all extra stuff as well. There was no budging from my parents, either. As soon as I got a boyfriend, I got a job! lol (because I was on the phone constantly with him and had to have my own line) I mean, I have no idea if that helped me as a person or not.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:44:16 PM

Casey, Thanks heart I think she will looove it. smile

KarenNerak Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:46:11 PM

I hope I didn't offend. I honestly don't recall how old your daughter is. You have four of 'em, so it's hard for me to keep track. Half the time I forget how old I am. I'm just a really traditional kinda Mom, I guess. I know that sounds odd coming from me, of all people, but it's true.

I agree....even from the time when I was a teen 20 years ago. (I was 13 then)

Things were just so different! We would walk for miles to see each other, we would CALL on a LANDLINE to talk. Now, there are so many ways that the kids can talk...get together, plan parties sneaking....MYSPACE and the internet is a major thing. My 14 year old has a computer in her room, but I only give her the internet during light hours.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:50:23 PM

Karen, offend whom? Noooo not at all. She is ONLY 14. But she is a 'good' girl and that is sort of why we give her things that the others don't get. As for one of the twins, she LOVES boys and lovey dovey crapola. I DON'T trust her as far as I can throw her little butt! lol Nah, no way. She doesn't get the privileges that Rae gets because I see that she isn't emotionally ready to take them on. She is very immature and likes boys. Rae (14) doesn't like 'boys' I guess yet...she is more into Twilight ...and having a crush on that guy. bigsmile

KarenNerak Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:51:16 PM

Ah, okay. I was afraid you'd come back with, "Oh, she's 11!" lol

KarenNerak Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:52:07 PM

Wait. Twilight? Man, how DO you put up with that...or do you like it, too?

Why don't I just stuff my foot in my mouth and be done with it for today? rolleyes

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Wednesday, May 27, 2009 6:00:29 PM

I would not allow Internet access to minors.
They don't need the Internet, they need to read books.

About phones, I just recalled my military service back in 92-93, I was 27 back then, we had a couple of public phones in the whole camp and you had to put coins or the card in them to call home. Or you had to write letters. On paper.

There was a friend of mine there who owned a car and we packed in it for trips when off duty or to get home once in a while. Otherwise there was the train.

Sounds like the '60s but it is not.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, May 27, 2009 7:18:29 PM

Hahaha Karen! Mmmmm HELL NO I like Twilight. yuck She is really into that stuff and even wants vampire teeth now. bigeyes Which is totally fine, her taste, her thing. But I just can't see it....My husband accusing me of raising a 'white girl' all the time. lol

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, May 27, 2009 7:19:57 PM

Lorenzo, yikes When even the 90's sound like the 60's you know something is wrong with today's society. irked

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Wednesday, May 27, 2009 7:32:47 PM

I see two changes in the time of my life.
- A very fast evolution of information and communication technology, with progressive acceleration starting from the '80s. Technology is a double edges blade since gives people new opportunities but also expose unprepared people to misuse.
- The focus of people on consuming. This is probably induced by marketing through role models proposed by TV. Teenagers are proposed premature adult role models discharging all the values and learning that should be related to becoming adult so they become (dumb/nonsense) consumers as soon as possible. Unfortunately those who push this do not mind of the negative side effects because in today's world nobody is responsible for anything.

The second of your two...Do you think this is because of the technology?

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, May 28, 2009 2:07:48 PM

It's ok...I am sad that it was in such a weird way....I was hoping that maybe I would just find him floating one day...but not because I changed the water wrong. sad

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Thursday, May 28, 2009 2:15:29 PM

No tecnology is not the cause of consuming. It is consumed like any other good or service. The cause of consuming is to take money from your pocket to transfer it on the bank account of some CEO in the Kayman islands. The trick is to make people thank you while you take their money.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, May 28, 2009 3:24:19 PM

I have seen that so much, especially with the credit cards, car loans, home loans, etc. There are 'reality shows' here that show people buying a home for the first time. They get the house that they qualify for, YET it is not one that they can reasonably afford! That is why we are in this home crisis now!

I remember when I was 21 and my husband and I went to search for a home to buy. It's so funny...we didn't buy one because the prices and terms were HORRIBLE. I think now the prices are easier...in the recession!

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Thursday, May 28, 2009 3:35:47 PM

When I was a kid my mom put patches on my pants and shirts when they got worn out and there were holes on the knees and elbows. To not speak of clothes that were passed from me to my brother and such. It wasn't me, all kids of my age were the same. To take books to school I had an anonymous school bag and I remember the days when we were going school shopping (pens, paper, etc). Nowadays kids wear fashion clothes (besides they often look like clowns) and they "need" computers, telephones, etc.

It is only marketing and TV.

Mrs. HermitessHermitess Thursday, May 28, 2009 3:46:13 PM

Lorenzo that sounds like my childhood... hand-me-down clothes, I had no tv or computer in my bedroom, ect...

awww A sad farewell to the fish who-would-not-be-named.

As far as the cell phone goes, it is important for safety, privileges, ect... I think you know best as far as what your kids deserve! up

pssst I didn't get a cell phone until I was in my late 20s

beavidal Thursday, May 28, 2009 4:04:01 PM

Once I had one that last 2 years. I was very happy but one day, suddenly, it died. sad
