The Dead Beta Fish
Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:11:29 PM
Well...I guess our Beta Fish just died. I changed his water this morning and put 'clear water' in there, as we normally do.... He seemed really fine at first, swimming around happily.
I checked on him about 2 hours later and he was floating.
I poked him, but he sort of twitched and went to the bottom...then slowly floated head first, body down. It was weird. Eh.. anyway I flushed him and said a little prayer. He was with us for about a year now...poor guy.
I guess I could have buried him in the back, but he was sort of still twitching, I would have felt bad.
Bye little guy! (I never named him, bad fish karma)

My husband and I got my daughter a Samsung Behold phone. I opened it this morning when FedEx delivered it (although my daughter informed me that she wanted to open it)
I wanted to have it charged for her before she got home from school. It's a graduation present. She just recently graduated from Jr.High and she did a wonderful job the whole way through. She is entering highschool so I really think that she needs a reliable cell phone for pics, messaging etc.
Meg, my sis, thought that it was a little excessive. But in my opinion it's not, because most kids don't even have to graduate to get a phone! They can just give their parents puppy dog eyes and get what they want.
So...I think she is going to love it. Also Meghan and I decided that we are going to save for a trip to New York as a High School graduation present for her!
I am excited about it! In 4 years.....
Anyway...this is the last week of school for all the girls.
It will be so nice to have lazy mornings before the beginning of the new school year in August.
I am just excited in general for my girls....the twins will be going to Jr.High and my oldest to High School. I can't believe that I am writing it...Someday I will be telling you guys about them going to college.
So...just get used to me!
I am going to be here for a while.

It's cool that you got her a phone. We've refused to get either of our kids phones. Jameson's 17. If he wants a phone, he can go get a freakin' job and buy it. Sunny's 11. No 11 year old needs a phone. We're not budging, either.

That's a great graduation gift for her.

From 13 you can ride small scooters, from 16 bigger scooter and small motorbikes.
I see teenagers nowadays are different from my old days. At 13 I was still playing with marbles and toy soldiers. I am reading today they already have sex at wild parties, drink, take drugs and such.
Besides, me and my friends did not have any money and spent our times playing some sports or just talking and making stupid jokes.

Things were just so different! We would walk for miles to see each other, we would CALL on a LANDLINE to talk. Now, there are so many ways that the kids can talk...get together, plan parties sneaking....MYSPACE and the internet is a major thing. My 14 year old has a computer in her room, but I only give her the internet during light hours.

Why don't I just stuff my foot in my mouth and be done with it for today?

They don't need the Internet, they need to read books.
About phones, I just recalled my military service back in 92-93, I was 27 back then, we had a couple of public phones in the whole camp and you had to put coins or the card in them to call home. Or you had to write letters. On paper.
There was a friend of mine there who owned a car and we packed in it for trips when off duty or to get home once in a while. Otherwise there was the train.
Sounds like the '60s but it is not.

- A very fast evolution of information and communication technology, with progressive acceleration starting from the '80s. Technology is a double edges blade since gives people new opportunities but also expose unprepared people to misuse.
- The focus of people on consuming. This is probably induced by marketing through role models proposed by TV. Teenagers are proposed premature adult role models discharging all the values and learning that should be related to becoming adult so they become (dumb/nonsense) consumers as soon as possible. Unfortunately those who push this do not mind of the negative side effects because in today's world nobody is responsible for anything.

I remember when I was 21 and my husband and I went to search for a home to buy. It's so funny...we didn't buy one because the prices and terms were HORRIBLE. I think now the prices are easier...in the recession!

It is only marketing and TV.

As far as the cell phone goes, it is important for safety, privileges, ect... I think you know best as far as what your kids deserve!

Once I had one that last 2 years. I was very happy but one day, suddenly, it died.
Hope the girls aren't so sad.
