My Opera is closing 3rd of March

sarah's Arty Dreams

everyday life of a stay at home mom/artist

Just some thoughts....

I watched "Iran and the West" on National Geographic tonight...flipping between "Jon and Kate Plus 8" of all things. Anyway it was nice to receive a brief education on the history of the relationship between the United States and Iran. Learning about how Iran was affected by terrorist sort of changed my view on it. My Marine husband put it best, "They have been fighting since the beginning of time." I hate to think of a country being in turmoil because of leaders, rebellion, confusion, etc. But we have to realize, this is something that is a natural part of being on this earth. It SHOULDN'T be that way, and I hate war but this is unpreventable.

There are those who chose to lose their life for peace. There are those that chose to lose their life for tyranny. Both groups do it with some sort of conviction that everyday people, moms, dads and others might only slightly understand.

When I wrote about the girl that was killed I did it because she was a female. A female, to me, isn't exactly a freedom fighter or deserved to die in that fashion or on camera for that matter. But I have learned of female suicide bombers! So yes, they are capable of fighting. It just shocks and saddens me and in a perfect world, of course, there would be no death.

I DID notice a lot of you stay away from the subject of Iran and what is happening. I don't know why...
Do you have no opinion or you just won't speak on it? Sounds like someone else we all know *cough*Obama*cough*

Anyway...
"Neda" pulled at my heart strings.

It gave me peace to know that she will be known as a martyr. But don't forget...all the soldiers that died for our country (United States) then TOO are martyrs of sorts. They died...so that we could have the freedom to wonder about peacefully.

Without the death of those many people, I am sure I wouldn't be freely writing on this subject now.

I'm gathering my thoughts. I am also very wary of internet/media propaganda. Is that the right word? Images are posted that we really know nothing about, but yes, they pull at our heartstrings and make us react. I'm not trying to downplay anything, but I'm not there and I don't really know what is really happening except for what the media is showing us.

I can think of countless examples, maybe this isn't the best one but it comes to mind. I lived in China during SARS. It was not the pandemonium there that the Western press was reporting. Also, when I was in China, there were reports of massive flooding and landslides near where my parents live. The way the news was reporting it , it was a disaster. But my parents told me it wasn't like that at all.

As I said , I need to think this over more before coming to my own conclusion. I just worry about images used in this way. I don't know. How can we know the full story?

There is a huge Iranian community in my city. Actually they prefer to be known as Persians. I wonder about this. Anyway, the other day, at the gym, all the TV's were turned on to CNN. (usually they are on sports channels) And all I saw for the next 1 1/2 hours were repeat images from Iran. The same images again and again. And the "Persians" were all glued to the broadcasts.

I'm making no judgements, these are just observations. Maybe I'll try to talk to someone at the gym tomorrow....

Pineas2 Tuesday, June 23, 2009 4:44:23 AM

When a girl can be a marine, why not a freedom fighter? Sometimes this could even be the same. The persians are btw very, very pretty and really tough girls. I lived once in a town with a strong persian community, mostly exilants who had left the country under the shah.

Stardancer Tuesday, June 23, 2009 5:01:13 AM

I have some very strong opinions about national and international politics. I'm feeling, to a great extent, the same way as San about this. But I'm also just being quiet, and watching, to see how our government "leaders" respond.

There's a lot of goofing around for the cameras going on right now, and almost no visible international diplomacy.

Still waiting....

:frown:

I honestly didn't get an alert for any other blog entry on this subject. I will have to go look. Maybe that's why you didn't get much feedback?

I was stunned to see you say this. bigeyes Why? Not sure - I know you were a supporter, so it's just kinda weird. In a good way, of course. p

As you know, I never liked the guy. He's the Anti-Christ. I just know it. left

Do you think it might be because of the stigma associated with the word "Iranian" due to the history of the country?

smile I would never discount the toughness of any girl or Marine girl for that matter, I just don't generally associate or connect the two. Girls are supposed to be girlie, after all. That is coming from someone (me) who beat her brothers growing up. happy

Taking a look at youtube...too many videos to count. You are waiting for our leaders to respond? How they respond determines your feelings on the subject? Or did I misunderstand? smile

I agree with that statement...America is close, but if you think about it...there HAS to be leaders in every area of life. There are those that can't make decisions that are right for a certain group of people. If only the majority is deciding, who is to say if they are right or wrong on the subject. Different areas have different opinions.

That explains the ladder of government. There has to be a beginning, (your city/town) that you live in, then county, then state, then country. It works well to some extent in my opinion. But population, economic geography and other issues can play a part in this.

The state I live in, Texas, is poor in my opinion. It's too big with too many people and few resources. So, what works for us doesn't work for Kansas, or Mass, or North Carolina, whatever!

In other words, I think it would work better if each state had a president...lol

I really don't like the idea of one president and I think it causes discord in countries.

Stardancer Tuesday, June 23, 2009 6:55:50 PM

no

I did not mean that my opinion would be determined by the response of our leaders. No way, no how.

I already have very strong opinions about this stuff. I'm just being quiet about it, that's all. And I'm very curious to see how the leaders of the "Free World" are going to respond to this.

That's all I was saying. Nothing more, nothing less.

You give him Hell, Sarah! That bastard has NO right to post that type of shit on YOUR blog. What a dick. I'm SO happy it didn't show up. That's the last thing I need to see.

LorenzoCelsi - You are a jackass and seriously have A LOT of nerve going on someone else's blog with your bullshittery. irked

KarenNerak Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:39:42 PM

It sure does. I'm a bitch. smile

Now fuck off and have a lovely day. bigsmile

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:41:42 PM

We all know that they have been fighting for years and years. Somethings never change...

You are trying to explain an unexplainable situation here. It's not possible to say why and what and who. It has to do with religion. People will make it about religion, why? Because they always do. *shrug* That's just them.

I see it as barbaric, but I guess they feel blood must spill because of their history. Do they know better? Why are some countries more disadvantaged than others? There might never be any explanation except it is in their genes. They will never change.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:45:38 PM

Didn't see all the other comments! lol

Lorenzo, when you post pictures like that on a blog you are visiting, it is a violation of someone's blog. I have the right to remove it and anything else. I left the URL for those who are interested in checking it out, but I will never force those type of images on anyone!

Think about it! Why would you force someone to do anything? That is dictatorship in itself.

KarenNerak Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:46:18 PM

I digress. You are far more witty and knowledgeable than I...a mere pion before your feet. rolleyes

Again - fuck off. smile

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:47:55 PM

I don't want to explain anyone's actions, but Lorenzo, she is stating that the picture was wrong and that's that.

KISS

(keep it simple stupid)

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:50:31 PM

KarenNerak Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:53:04 PM

KISS sucks, Sarah. Gene Simmons is so icky. p

LorenzoCelsi is a dick. Plain and simple. He clearly lacks the common decency to not post pictures like that in places where they are not wanted and/or asked for. He failed to see or even stop to think that for some people seeing such an image (whether it is going on or not) can be mentally and emotionally damaging to someone...especially in a place where it's nowhere near expected.

Nope. He just posts it anyway...not giving two shits who sees it, their age, what they've been through...etc. His agenda is all he cares about.

Essentially the polar opposite from altruistic in nature.

AKA dick.

I'm done now. I'm sorry, Sarah, to have gone off, but when I snap, I snap...and this ass has it coming. How selfish, ya' know? Love ya' love Sorry again.

Lorenzo, You put the picture back up and if you do it again I will have to block you.

ANYWAY Karen you don't have to apologize.

L, like I said before, you can't just go around posting things expecting others to just smile and take it up the ass. Get real.

You need to reread the post, I NEVER talked about gays in Iran.
It WASN'T the topic, you made it the topic.

Goodbye.

i don't say anything about the subject due to the fact that what we are given by the media of happening, isn't always the truth of what is happening.

KarenNerak Wednesday, June 24, 2009 7:20:11 AM

That's VERY true...which is why I watch the news on BBC lately. It's WAY less biased. up

Too bad they shut our cable off today. lol

Iranian vs Persian: Most Iranians are persians, farsi, but there are also arabian, kurd and even today jewish minorities.

I really don't agree with that Sarah. It's no better than a man getting better treatment than a woman. The fact is gender equality means genders being treated the same, not genders being treated the same PLUS the benefits they had before they decided they want more.

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Thursday, June 25, 2009 12:00:09 PM

But a girl is supposed to be a girl!

KarenNerak Thursday, June 25, 2009 9:06:44 PM

Yeah, but then that girl shouldn't be out on the front line. I'm SO sorry, Sarah, but I have no choice but to agree with Conor.

I totally see what you're saying, but if you're going to act like a man, you'll be treated like one.

heart

I hate disagreeing with you. cry

MConor Thursday, June 25, 2009 11:42:20 PM

If a girl is supposed to be a girl, she should have to act like one. If a girl wants to do a mans job, she has to be treated like a man. It's like Fair Pay. It's only fair if you do the same amount of work.

I don't disagree that a girl should be treated like a man if she acts like one. I have thought of that over and over again regarding Neda. I figured, if she didn't want to put herself at risk, she shouldn't have been out on her way to a rally.

When I say a girl is supposed to be a girl, it means she shouldn't have had her ass out there.

KarenNerak Friday, June 26, 2009 9:27:11 PM

Exactly. sad She should've been at home making hot cross buns or something! left

Either way, it's a damned pity...and really sad. sad

MConor Saturday, June 27, 2009 12:13:41 AM

I'm not trying to be heartless here, but it's the truth. Maybe she shouldn't have been out their, but she chose to be. And that takes with her the responsibility of her own life. I'd be no sadder had a man died. I mean, If you died out there you'd want the same sorrow to be had over you, right?

KarenNerak Saturday, June 27, 2009 1:55:48 AM

I don't think Sarah or I disagree with that, Conor. wink

Most sexist? Explain how it's sexist wink

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Sunday, June 28, 2009 12:04:31 PM

It's because .........."act like one" Act like a girl?

You sound more like me than I thought, Conor. What is a girl supposed to act like? And if she doesn't then what do you think of her?

There was a girl in jr high and high school that loved sports....in every way she was a tom boy. Even her body was like a boys, she had little hips and wide shoulders. STRONG. bigeyes So anyway, surprisingly enough, she was one of the first of us to become married and have kids. She didn't go to college on some sports scholarship or anything like we all THOUGHT that she would. She surprised us all!

She never 'acted' like a girl, yet...she was maybe one of the most girlie out of all of us.

So, 'acting' like a girl can mean many different things to different people. Some men get it and some men don't. *shrug*

MConor Sunday, June 28, 2009 8:33:19 PM

Some men get it and some men don't.

See, now that's sexist wink Saying I don't get it because I'm a man. I don't get it because I don't see how a loss of human life is more of a loss if it's female.

Sansanshan Monday, June 29, 2009 2:12:10 AM

She said "some". But you are right, "some" women don't get it either. For so many eons, and still now, females were/are not valued in many societies. You can't deny that. Maybe that's why Sarah feels the loss more. I say, treat everyone as an individual, without labels and restrictions.

MConor Monday, June 29, 2009 2:18:30 AM

But feeling loss more makes no sense. The whole womens rights was to get them the same rights, not better. Otherwise it's still being sexist.
