Grrrrr, I'm grouchy!

When I begun dating I was only 15 years old. I ‘fell in love’ with a senior in high school when I was only a 2nd year, or sophomore as we call it here. I begged my parents relentlessly to allow him to take me to the movies and it was all down hill from there. He and I were attached at the hip; if we were not writing notes to each other then we were chatting on the phone till wee hours in the morning. I was so proud to have a boyfriend in high school. There was nothing better than dating someone who could DRIVE! I mean, how cool is that?? We would take friends to ‘Sonic’ after school and all hang out and have our ‘cherry-lime aids’ as we gossiped and complained about teachers and friends. Those were really the good old days!
I was such a pleasant girlfriend in the beginning, but as our relationship progressed and we became closer, I became more and more jealous and bitchy.
This is never a classy thing in relationships, as I know and understand now, but then I was just learning how to begin to function as a teen that was in serious ‘love’. Every time a girl talked to him, I would feel a burning in my belly and my chest would tighten as I wondered what they were saying. Every girl was the enemy to me at that time.
Just when everything was settled and I thought that I had got rid of most of the flirts, a new girl came to school and she was a BLONDE from CALIFORNIA. This was my worse nightmare. I remember this girl clearly; a bohemian type of gal with wispy blonde hair and beautiful, long skirts that she would wear. (a look I could never pull off) I was more of the combat boot, bell bottom jean, army print backpack wearing girl. I have no clue why I dressed that way; it was some sort of phase I was going through.
Anywho, she took interest in my boyfriend and that really jerked my chain.
To make a long story short, I was grounded when it came around to him going to his senior prom, so guess who he took? Yes, the bohemian queen.
That was a very sad week for me but taught me a lesson; in the long run jealously does not pay. But my bitchy self kept him for another year after that until we were forced apart by him going into the military. Come to think of it, he was probably dying to get away from me…..maybe….I would hope to believe differently, but I did assume I knew the meaning of ‘love’.
Being married for 11 years now, I am still bitchy at times, but I don’t want to be predictable for my husband. It is positive for him to remain on edge at times, keeps things exciting.
Bottom line, I do love him and now I really understand what true love is. A mutual respect for each other and team work is important in relationships and will hopefully keep two people connected for as many years as possible.
