On 13 November 1914, the first patent for a brassiere was issued to Mary Phelps Jacob.

sorry about that, young lady. i always thought a man invented those things also.

but . . . . . just so you don't feel alone in this:

"Breasts were fine before the invention of the brassiere... This is similar to the myth that women supposedly need corsets to support their stomach muscles... wearing a bra... has no medical necessity whatsoever... Except for the women who find bras especially comfortable or uncomfortable, the decision to wear or not wear one is purely aesthetic — or emotional... If you don't enjoy it, and job or social pressures don't force you into it, don't bother... A mistaken popular belief maintains that wearing a bra strengthens your breasts and prevents their eventual sagging. But you sag because of the proportion of fat and tissue in your breasts, and no bra changes that... If you don't like wearing a bra, don't wear one." Dr Susan Love

Let's start a "I hate bras club". Though I really wish this Chinese woman who lives down the street from me would wear one when she goes jogging! bigeyes Not pretty , not pretty at all. (Some advice...go to a real bra store where they can fit you properly for size and comfort, it makes a big difference.)

Second in line in the hatred club...pantyhose!

Dacotah Sunday, January 6, 2008 4:54:48 PM

I hate them too. irked

Loiscakkleberrylane Sunday, January 6, 2008 5:50:57 PM

Me too, and now that I know it won't prevent sagging - Whooohooo! mine is going in the TRASH!! Pantyhose is there already - when it's hot here in Florida, your legs feel like cooked sausages.

beavidal Sunday, January 6, 2008 6:02:29 PM

I really dont know if I hate them...

I choose use the most comfortable as possible. Then, I use just to go out, or to work. At home, never.

Stardancer Sunday, January 6, 2008 7:15:50 PM

I don't like bras, pantyhose, or high heels.

Come to think of it, a retrogression to the Garden of Eden would suit me just fine.

lol

KarenNerak Sunday, January 6, 2008 10:43:21 PM

I like bras, myself. I wasn't that crazy about them until I realized that I wasn't wearing the correct size. Now that I have a proper bra for my twins, I quite like them. I certainly don't wear them 24/7...but I don't hate putting them on like I used to.

The everyday item that I hate would be my glasses. I'm having to wear them every time I'm at my computer now just so I won't get massive headaches. I guess I'm okay with that, but I want new glasses - these aren't my favorites... and I hate it when I wear them away from my computer and they get in the way. Like when I open the dishwasher and they get fogged over...or when I wear them to walk Sunny to school and it's cold outside and then I come back inside and they fog over. irked I REALLY hate it when they get dirty/dusty and I have to clean them. It's such a pain in the ass!

I want Lasik!

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Sunday, January 6, 2008 10:47:32 PM

I think that is most of my problem, I really need to go have one properly fit on me as Sandy said. Is that what you did Karen? As for glasses, I try to stay away from those, and keep my contacts on. smile

Kamelbluecoffee Sunday, January 6, 2008 11:04:15 PM

I don't talk about bras but the picture is very beautifull
It's art
It seems like four women dancing
Just like a Picasso or a Warhol

KarenNerak Sunday, January 6, 2008 11:17:46 PM

Yes, indeedy! Getting fitted helps a lot! yes

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Sunday, January 6, 2008 11:38:11 PM

Kamel, thanks. I took it from the net (shame) and edited it. bigsmile

Karen, I have been dying to get fit..now is the perfect opportunity. smile

Loiscakkleberrylane Sunday, January 6, 2008 11:41:16 PM

Karen: I have a solution about the glasses. I would get several pairs of glasses. I started off taking one pair from the drawer at a time. Then I would leave them somewhere. When I would clean the house, I would find them and take them to the kitchen. Into the dishwasher they went and from there into the drawer. Starts the whole cycle again! Fresh, clean glasses every time!

KarenNerak Sunday, January 6, 2008 11:56:49 PM

Ahhh, that's a great idea, Lois! yes Thanks!

Sarah, what you can do is go to one of those ritzy places and get fitted since the lower priced ones don't exactly have people to do that. I did that once and just bought one bra from them and then went somewhere else and loaded up on less expensive bras once I found out what my proper size was. (34C) yes Seems kinda cheap to do that, but I don't exactly have a bra fund in the bank. Some of those can get REALLY expensive! down

JDjrd2498 Sunday, January 6, 2008 11:59:06 PM

WOW bras, i really can comment at all on this subject. Just take Karens advice.

Nature has made women with a bosom, so nature thought it was important. Who am I to argue with nature? - Ida Rosenthal

It's Ida Rosenthal's birthday tomorrow (January 9). Since a lot of people give her credit for developing what seems to be the bane of your existence, I thought I might give you the opportunity to excoriate her on her birthday. Maidenform? Ida Rosenthal. For what it's worth, even if she invented it, she didn't patent it - that honor went to Mary Phelps Jacob. Of course, the fact that female athletes wore omething similar as early the sevent century BC, means maybe poor Ida isn't the right whipping boy...

Sarah Dreamsangel292005 Wednesday, January 9, 2008 11:14:51 AM

Okie dokie.

Matthewnoah counte Wednesday, January 9, 2008 1:19:45 PM
