Playground in the Empty Lot

Hmmmm
I awoke this morning at 3 am and thoughts begun to flood my mind. I first wondered what time it was and got up and staggered into the living room. The bedroom clock is still not set correctly after the power surge. 3 a.m. Ok I grab a drink and stand awkwardly in kitchen wondering why I feel so grouchy..for no apparent reason. The air is very dry because of the gas heater. I grab the biggest pot in my kitchen, a red 12 quart stock pot, and fill it with cold water from the sink. I turn the stove top on medium high and go back to bed. By the time I wake up the air will be filled with moisture and my nasal passage will at least feel better...hopefully my mood as well. But as I laid in bed breathing deeply to relax my body, a thought popped into my mind. This neighborhood doesn't have a playground!! The children usually go to each other's homes, or ride in the street on their bikes hoping that all drivers are paying attention. Thank God I live in a small neighborhood with both entrance and exit going onto the same road, we know almost all cars on the street...and they know the kids. I begun to have visions in my mind of the empty lot down the street, still unoccupied from the tornado of '79. My dream......The lot, in my thoughts, is full of play yard equipment. A swing set, slide, set in a huge sand box with the neighborhood children running around and laughing. The other mothers of the street and I sitting around gossiping and chatting about our hobbies or how hard headed our husbands are. Mmmmm I want my dream to come true. I want the home owners of this area to be excited about the project and pitch in to keep it up....for the kids. I want to see a street sign, "Slow, Children Playing" posted as well. I know quite a few families around the area that don't even let their children out to play because of their being NO SIDEWALK and NO PLAYGROUND. That is not healthy for the kids...they need to be in the air and moving.
I am not going to let this idea die...but would love to do more research on it as soon as possible. I am sure it will be a fight, or maybe impossible. Maybe just a dream!

If you contact them, they may be able to make your dream come true or at least point you in the direction of some organization that can.
Good luck!!

Star was talking about the title to the song that the title to my blog reminded her of...I am looking it up right now.

Yeah, Clint Holmes! That's the guy! I couldn't remember that name for the life of me!
Don't you just love where the children sing? It's just adorable.
"My name is Michael.
I got a nickel.
I got a nickel, shiny and new.
I'm gonna buy me
All kinds of candy.
That's what I'm gonna do."

CLINT HOLMES lyrics - Playground In My Mind
When this old world gets me down
And there's no love to be found
I close my eyes and soon I find
I'm in a playground in my mind
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day
"My name is Michael, I got a nickel
I got a nickel, shiny and new
I'm gonna buy me all kinds of candy
That's what I'm gonna do"
See the little children
Living in a world that I left behind
Happy little children
In the playround in my mind
Oh the wonders that I find
In the playground in my mind
In a world that used to be
Close your eyes and follow me
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day
"My girl is Cindy
When we get married, we're gonna have a baby or two
We're gonna let them visit their grandma
That's what we're gonna do"
"My name is Cindy
When we get married, were gonna have a baby or two
We're gonna let them vist their grandma
That's what we're gonna do"
See the little children
See how they're playing so happy
In the playround in my mind
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
La la la la la la la
