Lg env 9100.. I think it's more to do with the mobile browser not able to show gifs, than the phone.

It's not the browser if you are using Opera Mini. My daughter has a Samsung Behold and it even shows YouTube videos..in the browser. It also was able to show gifs. Do you use Opera Mini?
