Opera comes to Poland

Hi everyone, I am back in Oslo and happy after three successful events in Poland. Here is a recap of what happened.
Monday, 4th June 2007, Art Hotel, Wrocław
We gathered at 11:00 o'clock to officially welcome Poland to the Opera team. Opera's CEO, Jon S. von Tetzchner and Krystian Kolondra spoke at the event. Krystian Kolondra and Kuba Puchar will head the office in Poland.
Of course our Poland team was there and also a number of journalists from the Polish media. In addition, guests from the University of Wroclaw, Wroclaw University of Technology and from Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency were also present to establish local relations with our Polish branch. This is actually very important as the Wroclaw office is expanding. The original number of employees was 23 and since then 3 more people were hired. So if you are interested in working for Opera in Poland, have a look at our job listings.
Opera in Wroclaw moved to a centrally located office on Szewska 8, with a view over the cathedral, 2 minutes from the main square.

In the morning Opera together with Onet.pl organised a press conference in Warsaw to announce Opera's strategic partnership with Onet.pl, Poland's largest Web portal.
Onet.pl's services will be included in Opera to provide more relevant services and search results to our Polish users. More info about the common offering is available on opera.onet.pl.
In the evening we inaugurated Opera's presence on the Polish market at the Opera Backstage event in Warsaw in You and Me Bar. This was a great event! We had around 95 guests from our Polish partners and press to bloggers, opinion makers and web developers. I finally met Quiris who has always been a great help especially promoting Opera in Poland and giving us advice.
When Håkon whipped out his 100$ laptop a crowd gathered around him instantly. People tried Opera on different devices, checked out their websites on Nintendo Wii and enjoyed eating, drinking and meeting fellow members of the Polish Opera community. It was also interesting to meet Polish technical minds and IT community.
I could not have realized that this world is so small and everybody knows each other. It's great to put so many faces with all the names and I can't wait to see what other great things are in store for Opera in Poland.

Dziś udostępniliśmy polską wersje strony Opery: pl.opera.com
Prawie 7 procent polskich internautów używa Opery. W podziękowaniu zdecydowaliśmy się uruchomić stronę dedykowaną użytkownikom w Polsce, aby mogli zapoznać się z Operą i jej produktami w ich ojczystym języku.

On Opera-USB forum you can share your comments or find help regarding the portable Opera version.
Since version 8.5 Markus has been helping us port Opera to USB flash drives.
Now Opera is also available on the U3 smart drives!
We have interviewed Markus about his involvement in Opera and made it available on the Opera Community People page.

The FreeBSD accident

On Friday I wanted to contact the FreeBSD developers to establish good relations between Opera and FreeBSD and managed to do exactly the opposite
Not only there were already relations that I did not know about but also the whole FreeBSD community got involved when I accidentally sent the mail to one of the most popular FreeBSD mailing lists. That was not what I initially wanted to achieve! But it got worse. Being a marketing person and therefore not very technically capable
I assumed that FreeBSD was a form of Linux...I realised quickly after repeatedly being bashed by people both on the mailing list but also by my colleagues what a HUGE mistake I made!!!
Dear FreeBSD users both inside and outside Opera, please accept my sincere apologies!

No to ja znowu w Oslo jestem.
Wczoraj widzialam jak dzieci budowaly Iglo. Oni jednak cos z ludzi polnocy maja;)
Musze sobie koniecznie aparacik cyfrowy kupic i dodawac fajne fotki.
Swieta w Lodzi byly calkiem mile, spotkalam prawie wszystkich, ktorych chcialam zobaczyc. A teraz dalej podbijac Norwegie zaczynam. Tzn. od poniedzialku ruszam z Norweskim.
Jeg heter Anna. Jeg kommer fra Polen. Jeg bor nå i Oslo.

A Julebord udal sie w firmie calkiem calkiem. Autobusy zawiozly nas z siedziby do Holmenkollen do takiej duzej chatki z drewna. Bylo pyszne jedzonko i duuuuuuuuzo alkoholu. I tance huligance byly. A na swieta od firmy dostalismy po kilogramowym lososiu. Oczywiscie zawiozlam go do Polski i objedlismy sie nim. Smacznie bylo:)
