Photographed this one yesterday.
The background effect has been generated through a combination of a slow shutter speed and a blurring through a relative big aperture. It is water in essence.
Touch up through postprocessing in Photoshop CS2; resize, adjustment layers(levels, contrast, saturation), highlights/shadows, selective USM sharpening and selective Gaussian blurring background with feathering.
Weather conditions at the time were quite unpredictable. Rainy, sunny, cloudy and so forth.
More info about the species
hereThanks....

Hornbills (family Bucerotidae) are a group of birds whose bill is shaped like a cow's horn, but without a twist, sometimes with a casque on the upper
mandible. Frequently, the bill is brightly coloured.
Both the common English and the scientific name of the family refer to the shape of the bill,
"buceros" being "cow horn" in Greek.

Great place for macro photographers. Not really macro but rather close up pictures.
I have taken lots of them. In the album you find a few post processed and resized etc.
More info about The Zwin and The Butterfly Garden you find
here.
Yesterday I was photographing in The Zwin after closing hours. Nobody was there except the animals with their different sounds. It is an experience.

Last week I made a portrait of an owl. I did this before. This time however it was a feathered one. Beautiful animals and good models. The only problem is their eyes. Looking in the direction wanted and opening them.
This is another one. Eye is sharp and the beak also...rest is unsharp. Some people care most owls don't. Consider it as a portrait with esthetic unsharpness.

The rainy season for most of the country is in the summer, except in the Western Cape where the rains come in the winter. Rainfall in the Eastern Cape is distributed evenly throughout the year. My TrekNature portfolio.
For Canon telelens users my experience about the use of the image stabilizer it is useful but 3 stops is really the limit. For example: at a focal length of 200 mm using a shutter speed of 1/30 is not recommended in my opinion.
If you make a brief calculation: 30x2=60
60x2=120
120x2=240
this is 3 stops: 1/240 normally is enough to handheld your 200mm. Winning 3 stops in my opinion 80% change the image is blurred due to moving from the camera. If I'm mistaken...do not hesitate to convince me from the opposite?
