Missing pieces

Everything you should know about technology, but have been missing out

Free videos

,

There are many sites with free videos. Youtube and Google Video are two examples. If you have trouble with Flash, you can use services like Videodownloader to download those videos and watch then with for example VLC. Not so much needed with Google Video as there's often download link available too. There are some legal problems with sites like these, as people often post something that they are not allowed by copyright law. But there's also cases when Youtube has been bit too hasty to remove videos.

There's also some amateur video sites. I found out about Channel 101 when video about Chad Vader was linked in many IRC channels. Quite interesting idea, people vote which shows will continue (if you want to know more, check the site). I'm not sure about the quality as I have only watched Chad Vader.

Those are great for short videos, but there's also content available which is far greater quality in many ways. Revision3 seems to have good technology related shows, So far I have only watched Systm, which has for example show about how to do a podcast. Too bad the site seems to be laggy every time I decide to give link to anyone. Be sure to download show as torrent to keep those bandwidth costs down. If you have Opera 9, you don't need to worry about what torrent is, just click torrent link and Opera downloads the show for you and shares it with others too.

If you want to know more about open source, Go-Open might be worth watching. It's main target audience is North Africa, but it doesn't matter so much. If you know which drugs the host have been taking, please tell me

Then there's also sponsored show, Marcus Hates His Job. I still haven't watched it, maybe I'll fix that soon, so I can tell if it's good or not.

Let's see, still few sites left. Atomfilms, I'm not sure about this one, but I have bookmarked it for some reason. And last one is The Scene. Maybe I'll have to remember to watch that too.

There's also program that is dedicated for getting free tv shows and watching them.

PS: Marcus Hates His Job is ok, each episode is better than the previous one. The Scene is building up lot slower, but at least it's more realistic about computers than most tv-shows, you won't see notification about new e-mail that takes whole screen

Remember to also check post about free culture earlier, it has some video links too.

Thanks for commenting. It's nice to know that someone actually reads this

And if I know that I have some readers, there's more reason to keep posting new articles. I have three topics right now that need writing.
