Frozen Bubble

,

Frozen Bubble is similar game to Puzzle Bobble. Levels are cleared by clearing level from colorful balls. Balls are removed by forming cluster of three balls with same color, bit like in Columns. Which in turn, is similar to Tetris.

Another similar game is Monkey Bubble. I don't know which one came first, Monkey Bubble or Frozen Bubble. Monkey Bubble had network game first, I don't know if there's any other important differences. If you like monkeys more than penguins, Monkey Bubble might be better for you.

Game is highly addictive and even more fun with multiplayer. In Frozen Bubble 2 you don't need even to be afraid that losing side beats you up as there's Internet game available too. Though finishing 100 single player levels takes some time too.

There's not much to complain, graphics and animation are nicely done and gameplay is addictive, but bit repetitive. But that applies to Tetris too. Both are so addictive that it doesn't really matter.

It's available for many operating systems (for example Windows, Mac Os X, Linux and FreeBSD) including Series 60, so you can play it with your smartphone.

Have fun! smile

PS: pictures are from Frozen Bubble 1. Frozen Bubble 2 is already available for Linux from the website, but nobody has ported it yet to FreeBSD.

I love Frozen Bubble. And the fact that it comes with some Linux distros is great. But I didn't know I could get it for Windows. Great!

Monkey Bubble had network game first," So you don't know which one came first (20 seconds search would tell) but you can tell which one had network game first? Also, I'd say Monkey Bubble network game doesn't count as it is not stable.

Bias? Maybe bit strong word. OK, digging up some old new items seems to indicate that Frozen Bubble had its first release around 2002 and Monkey Bubble somewhere around 2003.

Explanation why I knew about the network game is simple, I have played those both games long before I started the blog. I wanted to play network game in Frozen Bubble but at the time it didn't have one. Monkey Bubble had, but I didn't manage to persuade some players to play it on another computer, so I didn't manage to test if the network game really works.

Whole paragraph is there to point out that there's very similar game out there, not to tell if one of them is better. Frozen Bubble 2 seems to have more features, but I have not managed to run it yet.

It should ask for the name when you get high score. In multiplayer it seems to use username from the operating system. I don't know if there's some differences in Windows version.

It doesn't ask your name when you get high score? Or are you playing multiplayer?

By default, it's using operating system username. You can change the name with following command line option: --my-nick, so to change your nick to amy, you would add --my-nick amy

Just add that to game shortcut with your prefered nick. Some instructions for Windows: http://vgstrategies.about.com/od/faq/a/CommandLineP.htm

In theory Id like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and never seem to get something done. puzzle bubble shooter
