"Apologize" is a song written by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder from the band's 2007 debut album Dreaming Out Loud. According to the band's MySpace site, the song "explores the personal pain of multiple relationships gone awry and the necessity of moving on". The song was the biggest radio airplay hit in the history of Top 40 radio in North America, with 10,331 plays in one week, until its record was broken by Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love," which was also co-written by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder.
The song charted strongly around the world, reaching number one in 16 countries, including Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, Egypt, Turkey, and the Netherlands, as well as staying at number one for eight consecutive weeks on Billboard's Pop 100. The song reached the US and UK top three and spent thirteen weeks at number one in Canada. "Apologize" is number 50 on the definitive list of Billboard's Hot 100 All-Time Songs from the chart's first 50 years, August 1958 through July 2008; achieving this status after it spent 25 consecutive weeks in the top 10, the longest stay there for any song since "Smooth," by Santana featuring Rob Thomas, spent 30 weeks there in 1999. The song has so far sold over 4,270,000 digital downloads in the United States to date
A remix of "Apologize," produced by Greg Wells and additionally produced and mixed by Timbaland, was featured on Timbaland's studio debut album, "Timbaland Presents Shock Value". The remix includes Timbaland drum beats, and added vocals, in addition to auto-tune sound mixing, and an R&B style verse.
The remix of "Apologize" was highly successful, becoming Shock Value's third unofficial single. It gained significant airplay, contributing to the success of "Apologize" in the US and on the US airplay charts. The remix version also caused "Apologize" to enter the US R&B charts, debuting and #87 and rising to #60. It is included on bonus tracks of OneRepublic's studio debut album as well as a double-sided AB CD single and Timbaland's album. On iTunes, it is Timbaland's most popular track (currently), and has reached the top 30 most-downloaded. It is currently the best-selling single of this decade, just in front of Bleeding Love.
Trouble will find you no mater where you go, oh oh. No Matter if you're fast no matter if you're slow, oh oh. The eye of the storm and the cry in the morn, oh oh. Your fine for a while but then start to loose control.
He's there in the dark, he's there in my heart, he waits in the winds he's gotta play a part. Trouble is a friend, yeah trouble is a friend of mine. oh oh!
Trouble is a friend but trouble is a foe, oh oh. And no matter what I feed him he always seems to grow, oh oh. He sees what I see and he knows what I know, oh oh. So don't forget as you ease on down the road.
He's there in the dark, he's there in my heart, he waits in the winds he's gotta play a part. Trouble is a friend, yeah trouble is a friend of mine. oh oh!
So don't be alarmed if he takes you by the arm. I won't let him win, but im a sucker for his charm. Trouble is a friend, yeah trouble is a friend of mine. Oh oh!
Oh how I hate the way he makes me feel. And how I try to make him leave; I try. Oh Oh I try!
