yes its made on Lnux with Blender > Screenshots and Gimp :smile:

3D isn't always easy. Best way for a start is learning by tutorials:
http://www.blender.org/education-help/tutorials/
http://www.blendernation.com/ < right column activate the blue tutorial tab

Start with easy, simple ones and end up with complex tutorials :smile:
