Gimp 2.8 first release

* a reworked, much more flexible text tool
* new saving/ export option
* export plugin for X11 mouse cursors and JPEG2000 file format
* rotation of brushes and additional enhancements to the brush dynamics engine
* tagging for resources
...and much more.

But there are much more interesting things we can await in Gimp 2.8:
* Finish merging of the GSoC 2006 vector layer stuff
* Merge the GSoC 2009 projects for brush dynamics and improved SIOX.
* Add a better set of default resoures
* Provide default tags for the default resources

This looks SO good - but I'm not too comfortable running the unstable releases. Impatience might convince me though...
Does anyone know a tentative release date for the stable 2.8?

Hey, I don't know if I should ask YOU this or not, but, aren't they going to change that UI to some more effective and professional one? I mean come on, I don't want to see GIMP copy the CS3 or CS4 UI, but there's plenty of ideas, professional doesn't mean CS3, I know they don't want it to become PS, but a childish splash and 3 icons in the task bar aren't helping either.
