Phatch a photo batch processor is available as version 0.1.5. At the moment there are now Deb package or release notes published.
Phatch is an standalone alternative with a GUI to
David's Batch Processor (DBP works only inside of GIMP). If you looking for a mass renaming utility take a look at
pyRenamer.

plugin, layer effects, script, GIMP

Jon Stipe has rewritten his
Layer Effects skript in python. Besides more features it gets a much better interface then the normal Script-Fu version and supports now a preview mode (awesome work!). You will find it at the menu "<Image>/Layer/Layer Effects/" and at the context menu of the layers. Check it out it's awesome! I will include this soon in my
easyGIMPkit.

With
Niepce Digital a new tool simliar to Adobe Ligthroom or Apple Aperture is in development. Hm, i don't know if this really a great news or just another project start.
I'm more a fan of supporting and improving existing projects like
F-Spot,
Gimp or
UfRaw instead of have another half finished peace of software. Anyway, we will hope the best

plugin, maintainer, developers, GIMP
...

For the very cool
Gimp Colorize Plugin Christopher Lais is looking for a new maintainer. Don't let
this die.
The same is about the quite good
GREYCstoration plugin, volunteers wanted to improve the code of the current GIMP plug-in and implement features of the commandline version.
The third is the
JPG2000 plugin, since the GSoC project nothing happens and nobody has seen this working in Gimp on Linux.
So new developers are needed to improve existing
plugins and move them to Gimp 2.4 and later to 2.6.
Anybody reading this could help finding the new maintainers and developers.
Post this on your blog and your related boards! If one of your friends could do this ask him!

blender, dds, GIMP, 3d

I wrote some months ago an article
"Pimp the Gimp for 3D" and described the problems getting all nesaccery plugins for 3D into
Gimp. Many problems could be solved by unpack RPM's, but most times you have to use older versions. The same with the DDS plugin, i have to use 1.0.1 while 2.0.6 is up-to-date. But today found an up-to-date
gimp-dds_2.0.6-1_i386.deb package - what a surprise!
For those using Ubuntu Hardy the Normal Map plugin for Gimp is included, just install package "gimp-plugin-registry" or package "gimp-normalmap".

color profiles, seperate+, plugn, GIMP
...
Once i reported about the further development of the Seperate plugin:
Seperate+, a nice addon to export
Gimp images into the CMYK color space. After my
Ubuntu Graphic Workshop i renembered the plugin (many people asked about Gimp & CMYK) and i revisited the site again: Taa-Taa Seperate+ 0.5.1 is available

but not longer as a Linux binary

.
So i tried to compile it and for the first time i did it successful. Then go step by step of this
Deb-Making-List (thanks to Simpsons-Fan) and created a Deb Archive of it:
gimp-seperate+-0.5.1-i386.deb
The plugin can be found at the menu of the image windows: "Image > Seperate".
You can get nice CMYK color profiles by installing the Ubuntu package "icc-profiles" and
download color profiles of Adobe (copy them into ~/color/icc).

It rumors that the final of
Gimp 2.6 will be available this month. I do not know the truth especially we hadn't a official announcement of
2.5.2 yet. At
Gimpusers.com you will find a first summery about what's new in Gimp 2.6.

Lars-Peter Clausen has
posted an interesting status report of the GSOC PyGimp which sounds great too.
GSOC projects for Scribus have their

The GSOC projects of Inkscape are still alive, take a look at
their mailing list and watch out about posts from
Maximilian Albert and
Felipe Sanches.

Whoo-hoo Gimp 2.5.1 rocks and is a real good graphical source for
CSSdev. Here is a little sneak preview of the layered image in Gimp 2.5.1 and the output off CSSdev 0.5 (just CSS and XHTML, noch graphics, no joke, no recoding after):

Those haven't Gimp 2.5.x running yet grab a Debian/ Ubuntu Deb archive of
Gimp 2.5.0 or
Gimp 2.5.1 now.

I'm on it to make the first version of CSSdev really feature rich in its basic features. In 0.4 i added support for font style and font weight for the default font (and later it can be used for text layers too).

This is a small bugfix release of CSSdev for GIMP, clipping works now perfect and non-webfonts as the default font gets alternative font faces too.
After getting a Debian/ Ubuntu Deb archive of
Gimp 2.5.0 and an update to
Gimp 2.5.1 i figured out new possibilities in the upcoming Gimp version. So in future i can support text layers well - that will make CSSdev much more awesome

So here comes my announced and awaited script "CSSdev for Gimp" that is a remastered and more feature rich Python implementation of the old and buggy
Gimp2CSS. After a hacking session at
area42 this is a first cool working version was available. Meanwhile i updated this script various times and added more features. The major goals for the future are adding support for floating design and nested layers.
