The neverending Development of Pixel

Since my post "Pixel 1.0 final next year" and "Pixel 1.0: Release soon or Vaporware again?" a lot of time goes by without a final release of the image editor Pixel. Now Pawel Kanzelsberger wrote "...Pixel Studio Pro is still not ready for market release (and we’re working hard to prepare it for the market)".
Besides that he released a maintenance release of Beta 0.8 that includes a Linux version too.

Over GetDeb.net i explored various interesting image utilies (most of them i'd like to see as a GIMP plugin):

Seam Carving GUI
...a utility for content aware image resizing very simliar to the Liquid Rescale plugin for GIMP (inluded in the package GIMP-plugin-registry). Seam Carving GUI is available for MacOS X and Windows too.

Tintii
...is a coloring utility - available for Photoshop too but not for GIMP :frown:

Smilla Enlarger
...raster image enlarger that uses smart curves algorithms to avoid pixelization and blurring artifacts. Smilla Enlarger is available for MacOS X and Windows too.

Pixel 1.0: Release soon or Vaporware again?

Pavel Kanzelsberger, the developer of the image editor Pixel, wrote at his blog again that the release of the Pixel 1.0 comes closer. He presented a distributor for it too. This isn't the first message about a final release and after so much announcements it isn't save if this will really happend.

Pixel 1.0 final next year

Ok, this is not a really new message but the update progress at the Pixel website is really slow - so i visited not often: Pavel Kanzelsberger, the developer of the image editor Pisel (which is a commercial Photoshop clone), had announced that he found an investor and so the final release of Pixel will be at the 30. April 2009. Pixel will be available for Linux too.

Krita 2 and Karbon 2 beta

After many alpha versions the kOffice 2 reaches now the beta state. That includes the first beta versions of the image editor Krita and the vector drawing application Karbon too.

Krita 2 and Karbon14 2 alpha 10

A week ago the KOffice project released the 10th alpha of KOffice 2 including the image editor Krita 2 and the vector drawing app Karbon14 2.
Besides a lot of fixes Krita 2 brings now the Sumi-e paintop, which is a very configurable bristle-simulating brush engine (screeny). Karbon 2 brings back the page layout editing (screeny) and new filters.

Today the KOffice project released the 7th alpha of KOffice 2 including the image editor Krita 2 and the vector drawing app Karbon14 2. In this alpha Krita brings a new plugin architecture. Of course the alpha 7 includes a lot of bugfixes too.

Pixel Beta8 goes 64bit

Pavel Kanzelsberger, the developer behind Pixel, has announced that Beta 8 is coming soon and will be available as a 64bit version too. To make sure Beta8 is stable for daily work it took a little bit more time then expected.
Pixel is a commercial Photoshop-like image editor for Linux, MacOS X and Windows.

A nice Gimp theme

I created a Gimp theme that is based on the normal Tango look but has big icons at toolbox but small text and small dock icons. So this is not icon eyecandy but improves the workflow and available space much.
You can download it here. Copy the 'area42' folder into '~/.gimp-2.4/themes', start Gimp and select the area42 theme in your preferences.

gThumb 2.10.6 is released now, just bugfixes and minor improvements.
What i'm really missing is support of more file formats. While this didn't change i prefer XnView.

New Beta 7 of Pixel for Linux and MacOSX

After canceling Beta 7, Pavel Kanzelsberger has published a new beta 7 pf the image editor pixel. This new beta is merged with new stuff of the upcoming beta 8.

gThumb 2.10.5 hit the streets, after 2.10.4 a new bugfix release too. The gThumb webpage didn't list that progress now but take a look at GnomeFiles.

Qtpfsgui 1.89

Qtpfsgui, a graphical user interface that enables users to work with HDR images. It is updated to version 1.89 and shipped with new toolbar options and some bugfixes.

Pixel - no Beta 7

Pavel Kanzelsberger has posted on the Pixel website that there is no Beta7 of thie image editor Pixel. Because of endless troubles with this release it was skipped and he will directly release Beta 8 in near future.
He posted a first screenshot of Beta 8 on MacOS X. Beta 6 is still available for download.

gThumb 2.10.3

With a lot of bug fixes and some improvements a new release of gThumb - the Gnome image viewer - is available.
Some translation were updated too.
