Ok, i'm getting not really famous but as i read my
CMYK Tiff 2 PDF for Gimp script is now in Debian SID and Ubuntu Karmic. That means many, many, many people can enjoy my work

BTW : You can enjoy that and a lot of other stuff now too, just download the
liblqr-1-0_0.4.1-1_i386.deb and the
gimp-plugin-registry_2.1-1_i386.deb package and install them. This will update the packages of Jaunty.

After
GnoCHM makes no real progress in development
CHMsee is a really good alternative to read Windows CHM-Helpfiles. The
newest version 1.0.6 of CHMsee now shiped with the long missed index feature (for Ubuntu Jaunty
a newer version of libgcrypt11 is required).
This le me think about my gEdit Language Reference Plugin again. So i added support for various CHM viewer like GnoCHM, CHMsee, XCHM or KCHMviewer. To support the project i created a complete german translation for CHMsee too that may ship with 1.0.7 one day

After the last security updates 8.1.3 and 8.1.4 now the
new Adobe Reader 9.1 is available for Linux too. Like ever it isn't the fast PDF viewer for daily usage (like
Envince) but it is the best PDF viewer for prepress.

After using my CMYK Tiff 2 PDF for Gimp in real life by creating the prepress PDF of the
german Ubuntu flyer and the chance to get it bundled in the Debian package "gimp-plugin-registry" i updated it again and fixed some bugs:
* added license information about GPLV2
* now compression modi "Zip" and "JPEG 95%" are working
* a creator sign "GIMP CMYK Tiff 2 PDF" in the meta informations of the PDF document will be added

postscript, ghostscript, pdf, ps
Ghostscript offers a powerfull PostScript-to-PDF converter. But it is quite challenging to use its parameters on the command line.
Moonshiner is a graphical frontend (GUI) for it that is very simliar to Adobe Distiller. At the moment
version 1.0 is in beta state while 1.1 is available at the SVN.
Scott Nesbitt wrote a post
how to get it running on Ubuntu Linux.

* Exporting two images as on PDF
* Start Acrobat or Evince after export
* Delete CMYK TIff images after PDF creation
For myself it sounds like feature complete but i'm interested in your feedback too.

Envince and a lot of other PDF viewers are great for the daily usage. But working with PDF documents for prepress the best at all is always the Adobe PDF Reader. Due some security issues Adobe updated it now to
version 8.1.3.
The Adobe Reader is available in various languages as a Deb and RPM archive too, so its easy for you to install it. You can get it via the
Medibuntu Repository too.

To complete my workflow using
Seperate+ that generates CMYK Tiff images inside of Gimp i wrote a small Python plugin for Gimp that allows you to convert the saved CMYK Tiff image into a PDF for prepress.

As i can see there are new
Scribus SVN builds available from this weekend for
Fedora 9. Hopefully someone updates the
builds for Debian/ Ubuntu too

Thomas Zastrow wrotes a little preview about what we can expect from
Scribus 1.3.5.
My favorite wishes about Scribus 1.3.5 are CMYK-Tiff images with alpha work in PDF documents and the text frames renembers their font properties and display them correct in the property panel.

Scribus is a fine open source application for print and dtp. I'm using 1.3.4 often but it has its bug and so i'm waiting for an update. I was a little bit confused about the newer 1.3.3.x releases because 1.3.4 sounds like a successor of 1.3.3. Now i found
a little preview of Scribus 1.3.5 which will hopefully hit the streets soon.
If you using Ubuntu, you can get this SVN build easy:

Envince and all the others PDF viewesr are great for the daily use working with office documents. But the best for print layout previewings is always the Adobe PDF Reader. Adobe updated it to
version 8.1.2 now,
read about the changes at GnomeFiles.
The Adobe Reader is available as a Deb and RPM archive too, so its easy for you to install it.
