Gimp & Seperate+ = CMYK

, , , ...

Once i reported about the further development of the Seperate plugin: Seperate+, a nice addon to export Gimp images into the CMYK color space. After my Ubuntu Graphic Workshop i renembered the plugin (many people asked about Gimp & CMYK) and i revisited the site again: Taa-Taa Seperate+ 0.5.1 is available  but not longer as a Linux binary :frown:.
So i tried to compile it and for the first time i did it successful. Then go step by step of this Deb-Making-List (thanks to Simpsons-Fan) and created a Deb Archive of it:
gimp-seperate+-0.5.1-i386.deb
The plugin can be found at the menu of the image windows: "Image > Seperate".
You can get nice CMYK color profiles by installing the Ubuntu package "icc-profiles" and download color profiles of Adobe (copy them into ~/color/icc).

As i can see there are new Scribus SVN builds available from this weekend for Fedora 9. Hopefully someone updates the builds for Debian/ Ubuntu too
Thomas Zastrow wrotes a little preview about what we can expect from Scribus 1.3.5.
My favorite wishes about Scribus 1.3.5 are CMYK-Tiff images with alpha work in PDF documents and the text frames renembers their font properties and display them correct in the property panel.

Second day IICO 2008

, , , ...

The 2nd day at the IICO 2008 was filled with a lot of interesting talks, i visited a very nice one about wording and writing text for websites.
As a member of the jury for the IICO Award about "Design and Usability" it was a pleasure for me to hold the laudatio for the winner of the award: LEGO

First day at the IICO 2008

, , , ...

Today i was the first day at the IICO 2008 presented by Infopark. Bernd Völker gives an interesting opening about the future of the web and the need of ideas and fantasy to create something amazing. This was followed by a more unintresting keynote of the CeBit Messe AG.
A quite interesting talk about podcast and how corporate podcasts can be successful at the web was given by BASF. This was followed by a good one about analyzing the web (yes, that's the next step after analyzing the own website) and what the web is talking about you and your company. There were a lot of talks and i can't listen to all of them.
By the way at area42 we developed the print design of the IICO 2008, the header graphic is made using Blender.

Scribus 1.3.5 sneak preview

, , , ...

Scribus is a fine open source application for print and dtp. I'm using 1.3.4 often but it has its bug and so i'm waiting for an update. I was a little bit confused about the newer 1.3.3.x releases because 1.3.4 sounds like a successor of 1.3.3. Now i found a little preview of Scribus 1.3.5 which will hopefully hit the streets soon.
If you using Ubuntu, you can get this SVN build easy:
