Hey, thanks! This package saved me from the headache of updating to karmic just to get EPS Inkscape's EPS export feature working. -Thomas

I am using 0.47 pre0 one. I don't understand why there is no Ubuntu Jaunty package for 0.47 pre1. They built for Karmic Koala but it is not installable for Jaunty users due to dependency issues. I found a package for Jaunty but is only for AMD 64 bit users.

Spot on! I spent the last hours of my life trying to compile pre1 manually (which needs -dev packages of ~500MB!), searching for a PPA that had pre1, trying to fulfill the prepackaged Karmic pre1 dependancies ...

A nicely wrapped up pre1-deb for Jaunty is highly needed!

Could someone with a sufficiant amount of knowledge provide such a package for us? It will be greatly appreciated!

Good news!

I contacted Ted Gould, the maintainer of Inkscape's PPA at https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.testers/+archive/ppa and he stated that the PPA will be updated to include 0.47 pre1 soon!

It is not that hard to compile Inkscape from svn. I recently did another one. First get all dependencies:

sudo apt-get build-dep inkscape
sudo apt-get install libgsl0-dev

Then download the recent svn from http://inkscape.modevia.com/svn-snap/?M=D

And extract it, then cd into the extracted folder (named like inkscape-XXXXXX):

./configure --prefix=/home/yourname/Inkscape #just define a directory)
make
make install

"make" process may take 30-60 minutes depending your computer. Then you can make a shotcut for you Inkscape Development Version which is install in a directory you specified in configure command.

I think there will be another prerelease(s) soon.
