Typo3 Backend Workaround for Firefox 3
Friday, 20. June 2008, 11:27:56
Last week i wrote a post about updates of the CMS Typo3 4.2x and 4.1x to fix security issues and problems of the Backend with Firefox 3. Not any Typo3 installation can be updated in time and i found a workaround how to use the backend of older Typo3 versions with Firefox 3:* Login at the Typo3 Backend
* At the section "Web" klick on module "Page"
* The backend bug appears in FF3 - the first frame is missing
* press now the back button of FF3
* use now your Typo3 in the normal way

Was really excited to see this post, and got your workaround to work.
However, it only works for me if I have no Firefox add-ons installed. Once I installed my normal set of extensions (Firebug, Delicious, StumbleUpon) this workaround broke -- the Back button did not restore the missing frame. Removing them one-by-one, I could only get the Back button trick to work if there were none installed. Merely disabling did not do it.

PS: The above refers to Typo3 in Firefox 3 on Mac OS 10.4.

Hi,
the best solution to this problem is updating your Typo3 to 4.1.7
All other solutions might solve the problem temporarily but are not recommendable.

L.S.,
Sounds simple, just updating to Typo3 4.2. I tried it, but it then turns out that Typo3 4.2.1 requires PHP 5.1 or higher. My customer's ISP does supply PHP5, however in order to use it I have to change all(!) filename extensions *.php to *.php5!
Fortunatly, I did not have Typo3 4.2.1 overwrite version 4.0.5, so I could very quickly restore the old situation. (Uploadeing 4.2.1 took me about 1:45 hours!)
So my "hack" for the time being is to use K-Meleon as an alternative browser just for the back end and FF3 for the front end.

As my post before clearly states, I'd recommended upgrading to 4.1.7 which afaik does not need php5.
Having to rename all *.php files to *.php5 is just outrageously stupid and if I were you I'd change my ISP.

Usually the developers now use Opera for it... and I really support them doing so.
I hope the TYPO3 dev team fixes that soon.
