STICKY POST

Welcome !

This is a sticky entry which content is likely to change often perhaps till I get satisfied of it. However, I want to keep it up to date so that you'll probably never read a definitive composition.

update 15.12.07: some of you find my blog using search keywords like : "bisous + pronunciation" or "j'espère te revoir bientôt + pronunciation", I just want to say it's really lovely

update 02.06.08: Do not post off-topic answers because it may be annoying for others not to find reactions to the main topic. This post is the right place for a general feedback about my blog. Thank you if you plan to say what you think of it !

Make your books travel

I'm a member of the BookCrossing project1 since the beginning of 2006 but I have never caught nor released any book yet ...

Let me describe the idea for those who don't know BC yet.

1) You read a book
2) You register it on the website
3) You release it

Releasing a book consists in giving it to someone you know or leaving it at any place of your choice.
The BCID which is a unique number for the book you have registered will be used for tracking it.
You can release a book and you can catch it as well. The website provides a way for hunting books which are close to where you are and if you're a good hunter, you can (and should!) notify your finding on the website.

I have just received what I ordered that's to say:

- 250 release bags
- 100 bookmarks

:-)

Here's a blurred photo of the two sides of one bookmark:

Do we really know what effect coffee has on oneself ?

Many things can make me tired ( or does it occur to me not to be tired ? Mmm ? ) but I wonder whether it's a direct consequence of drinking much coffee or not.

First, I regularly have difficulties for falling asleep even when I'm very tired ...
11pm Thinking, switching the light on ... writing my thoughts down (yes, I know ...), switching the light off ..., writing SMS ... Oh my god, already 1am !!!

After the night, I am usually sleepy the whole day at work, ..

Caffeine binds on receptors for the neurotransmitter "adenosine"1 which makes one sleep.
Secondly and because the adenosine receptors multiply, I get more sensible to it when there's no caffeine intake.
In other words, I drink coffee, I feel am stimulated during few hours then I feel over-tired.

Caffeine also increases the adrenaline2 production through increased dopamine3 secretion.
What wouldn't be freed in normal circumstances is released which means the very little energy left is consumed and one finishes more tired than before having drunk coffee.

Moreover, I often have headache ... And, I keep private the consequences on XXX !

I know: I'm naturally anxious and I spend my time front of a computer, so ... it also can explain much of it

What about you ? Do you feel addicted to coffee and how your body seems to behave ?

Stop losing things: the simple way

1) Throw away what I don't need anymore

Ouch, hard is life, I mean life is hard ... Why throwing my useless things away ?

Let's say 30% of things around me haven't been used since several years, I know they may, might, won't be useful the next years....

"Breathe in, Throw them away, Breathe out", haha ... Unfortunately, I can't ... sniff

2) Keep each thing at its place:

Usually I think the right place for everything is the closest to me thinking I'll find them faster when I need them... Obviously, I get the opposite effect and it even makes me lose things faster

So, my mission 2-a) will be finding another place for any little thing :o:)

3) Make copies

3) Always verify I have the things I need when I'm leaving a place

I think the two first goals would be a reasonable start

What about you ? What are your secrets if you have any ?

The fear of success

You may already know about the fear of failure but have you ever heard of the fear of success ?

According to Freud1 and Laforgue2, failure would be a kind of preventive self-castration and success may symbolize realization of the forbidden Oedipal desires.

What is your point of view ?

Using random signatures in email

Recently, I sent an email to someone for getting news and I have been answered she is in dire straits...

My mail user agent inserts random signatures using an external program (fortune1) and for that email it was this one:

"You need no longer worry about the future. This time tomorrow you'll be dead."

It made me laugh, I hope it wasn't too offensive though.

Do you use random signatures ?

Do you limit them to "non-offensive" entries ? fortune has that feature but it's a subjective point anyway.

What do you think of using random signatures for professional correspondence ? Let's say internal usage only.

Hello,

Here's another photo taken with my cellular phone somewhere in France but I can't remember where.

Domain of Versailles

Hi everybody,

Here's a photo I've taken with my cellular phone (Samsung Z230) where I was at "Domaine de Versailles"1:

You can see the "Château de Versailles"2.
