Sony Ericsson's new UIQ 3 smartphones on the horizon?

, , ,

Towards the end of the year, normally, cellphone manufacturers will announce their portfolios for the coming year. This time, there's a strong wind blowing about Sony Ericsson's next generation UIQ 3 smartphones. There are still no concrete information about what will be announced but I have collected some bits and pieces about the following specifications :

- P990 successor
- Slider form factor
- Slimmer and lighter than the P990
- 2.8" VGA screen
- Built-in GPS
- Wifi 802.11b/g
- Symbian OS v9.x ***(Ares said it's Symbian OS 9.5 - hopefully with Demand Paging!)
- New UIQ (UIQ 3.2 or 4???)
- 360MHz Processor *** (Information from Ares)
- 160MB internal memory
- 128MB RAM
- WAP 2.0
- 5 megapixel camera (with AutoFocus and flash)
- HSDPA/HSUPA
- To be announced in November
- To be available in Jun 2008 (Q3 2008)

Now, whether this will be true or not, that will have to be decided on the announcement. And many people are reporting that the announcement will be made on November 15th 2008 (that's next week, yay!). And probably, more than one UIQ 3 smartphones will be anounceed...

Yawn.The TYTN II is here and available in SA.Nokia keeps churning out smartphones like a sweet factory.Announcement is coming next week you say about P990i successor.to be available June next year.Thats why SE fans are always disappointed.They create a buzz 6 months before a phone is to be released and it never lives up to the hype.SE must get its house in order.People are jumping the smart-phone ship to S60 and WM6.0.

azri, its symbian 9.5, not 9.3 :wink:

@Calvin

Many thanks. Well, if people want to go get WM 6 or S60 3rd Edition smartphones, by all means, do. Because they are aplenty of them in the market and the news about them can be read almost everyday.

For UIQ 3, it's unique because the media doesn't care much about it. It's virtually doesn't exist and a lot of people do not know about it. Hence, when something like this happens, us UIQ 3 users are excited and it's beyond words...

Creating buzz for products is good. Nokia created the buzz for E90 since end of last year and only in Q3 this year it is made available, with some bugs. Apple made iPhone buzz many months before it actually ships. Why Nokia, Apple and others can create buzz but Sony Ericsson / UIQ 3 cant? :wink:

@Ares
Many thanks for the additional info. I need to edit the post then :wink:

POINT TAKEN.BUT THE PRODUCT THAT IS RELEASED HAS TO STAND UP TO THAT BUZZ.THE E90 IS ONE OF THE MONSTER OF MONSTERS AND I THINK LIVES UP TO THE BUZZ.HEY,DONT GET ME WRONG.IM EXCITED JUST AS MUCH AS YOU ARE.LETS JUST HOPE SE'S NEXT FLAGSHIP IS A MONSTER OF ALL MONSTERS THAT EATS UP THE MONSTER OF MONSTERS.LOL :smile: LOVE YOUR SITE.KEEP IT RUNNING FOR AS LONG AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.GREAT WORK.

@Calvin,
Frankly, SE should work out more on the advertising and promotion and not just waiting for others to derive innovation. SE used to be an innovative entity but it fades away... I mean, the smartphone business in SE might be not as big as it's K-series (Camera) and W-series (Walkman) but in order to capture the market, they should do more... not less... And now SE owns UIQ together with Motorola, what's stopping them from releasing powerful stuff and combine power together??

Regarding this blog, Many thanks for the encouraging words. I'm doing my best to give all of you some insights and my own analysis, not just links and other opinions. But as a normal human who has a day job, a family and stuff, I sometimes need to prioritise more on the other things than this blog... Trust all of you understood... :wink:

Anyway, more interesting stuff will come soon for this blog... Watch this space!
