Doberman, huh? :ninja:

Cois 29. April 2008, 08:35

Spaggyj 29. April 2008, 09:51

What does it say in English?

atlavon 29. April 2008, 10:37

:o: uhmmmmm... a lil help... Fran... :right:

Spaggyj 29. April 2008, 10:44

My guess is the cat is bragging about beating up a huge doberman :D

atlavon 29. April 2008, 10:53

Spot on!!!
I just cant really translate foul language.. :D

Spaggyj 29. April 2008, 15:44

There's foul language and I do not understand it?! This is sacrilege!

Cois 29. April 2008, 22:11

Directly translated it says: So I hit that doberman like this against the ear..

moered is difficult to translate.. It can be hit but alot is left unsaid..
If I'd translate so it makes sense it would be: so I beat the snot outta that doberman..

atlavon 30. April 2008, 05:23

yeah... 'moer' just doesn't have the same effect in English..

Cois 30. April 2008, 07:20

I wanted to say bliksem but realised it was a afrikaans word! Homer: Doh!

qlue 1. May 2008, 06:49

A Moer is also a nut hence moersleutel (nut key: i.e. spanner)
.
The word can also be used as a derogatory reference to some you don't like. :left: .
For eg, "Jou moer!"
Would mean something similar to, "You asshole!"
.

atlavon 1. May 2008, 15:48

 thanks dudes...

atlavon 1. May 2008, 15:49

"moer" is actually very usefull. p:

Spaggyj 1. May 2008, 21:29

I get it now. Cheers Aadil, Clint  . And Jess, for forcing me to learn

atlavon 2. May 2008, 06:40

Its our pleasure

Edward2 11. May 2008, 18:26

Moer also means mother. Like in moer=moeder (mother)

Cois 11. May 2008, 21:01

In what language would that be? Because in not one of my dictionaries do I get that as a meaning..

atlavon 12. May 2008, 03:51

:eyes: unheard of...

Edward2 12. May 2008, 17:37

Moer is Namaqualand dialect 4 moeder (mother)

Edward2 12. May 2008, 17:48

Moer is afrikaans. It usually refers to the mother of for example a horse, a cow, donkey etc. Thats why when we use it in a derogatary manner we imply that a persons mother is an animal

Cois 12. May 2008, 21:35

After much enquiry I can confirm it.. But I can also add that its not used anymore.. Or in that manner anyway..
Congratulations.. You've taught me something..

atlavon 13. May 2008, 04:52

That is the worst description of a mother. Especially should it be used anywhere in South Africa. I'm so glad its not used anymore.

(just imagine - Moer! Waas my kos!)

Where's your hand Edward? I have to shake it..

Cois 13. May 2008, 06:14

Well it was only used for animals..:eyes: if I ever meet someone that uses that term then it'll be a miracle..
Or rather I'd be watching Namakwalanders..

Edward2 13. May 2008, 20:26

Sometimes when people swear at each other they will not say "jou ma se p..s". Which translates as "Your mother's c..t" Please forgive me, my intention is not to be rude I just want to make my point clear. To get back to the point: They will say "Jou moersk..nt"

Again, please forgive me but thats how people in Namaqualand speak espescially older people

Cois 14. May 2008, 00:51

I haven't heard that in ages.. :eyes: really.. My dad used it.. (a man who taught me well in the world of swearing) but that was over 15 years ago..
I'd be suprised if I heard any of this generation to use it..:left:

Edward2 14. May 2008, 08:33

Ya. As i say its more older people thats using it

qlue 15. May 2008, 23:32

Afrikaans must be dying out if nobody is using it's swear words anymore...

Cois 16. May 2008, 00:45

You know what swear words they use.. :insane: its usually preceded by 'jou ma se' :ko:

qlue 16. May 2008, 12:34

Yes, but that's an english swear word. It's just spelt differently. It could also be a reference to a cat

qlue 16. May 2008, 12:35

Yes, but that's an english swear word. It's just spelt differently. It could also be a reference to a cat

Edward2 16. May 2008, 18:47

If u can hear us Namakwalanders swear in Afrikaans u wont be worried about Afrikaans dying

qlue 16. May 2008, 20:46

Maybe it's time I took a road trip. What's in namaqua? Other than flowers that is.

Cois 17. May 2008, 10:46

Dessert.. p:

Edward2 17. May 2008, 16:39

U never been to my world. Well broaden yr horizons. The word is desert not dessert. Dessert is pudding or something like that. Some u eat after your main meal:troll:

Cois 18. May 2008, 00:57

That's what I said! :left: *chorus of little voices* that's what he said.. That's what he said.. excuse my english.. I tend to use what t9 allows me.. That with a heavy hangover equals the first thing that pops in my mind..

qlue 18. May 2008, 07:17

T9 sucks! I wish I could meet the guy who programmed it so that I could moer some sense into his (or her) thick skull. :irked: .
I'm especially livid about the fact that everytime I try to type 'if' it comes up with 'he'. That and the fact that half the words I'd normally use aren't supported. :irked:

Cois 18. May 2008, 09:08

I've become so used to the inadequacies, its imprinted in my poor fragile brain..

qlue 26. May 2008, 20:21

If I had access to the phones firmware, I'd have to re write it.

LUWAGO 2. June 2008, 09:33

qlue 3. June 2008, 18:50

SHARKS RULE!
Just to clarify any misunderstanding as to where my loyalties lie. .
I have no doubt that the afrikaaner is in no danger of becoming extinct any time soon. They're like roaches, not even a nuclear blast can scare them. .
