What's 5h59 mean?

attilasoul 6. May 2008, 08:10

it means one minute to 6 o'clock in the morning Carol.
I hope the bus came shortly after you wrote this, Jessica!

Cois 6. May 2008, 08:49

mahapra 6. May 2008, 09:37

Dacotah 6. May 2008, 12:59

Thank you Tilla.

atlavon 6. May 2008, 16:38

No it didn't Tila.. :irked: I waited till about half past 6 & went home...
I had to then cough up extra cash to get someone to take me to work. I could've just as well stayed home - it was a shitty day at the office..

Carol, how do you write the time?

Clint that picture is just... WRONG! p:

Mahapra, you are??

Dacotah 6. May 2008, 17:40

5:59 pm
or 5:59 am

Cois 6. May 2008, 22:49

South African winters are starting..
Here it rains and it freezes.. Or you'll get windy cold..
Sure we don't get snow but we do get cold..

atlavon 7. May 2008, 09:47

Yeah, we do get all 4 seasons here too...

Carol we use both

Dacotah 7. May 2008, 14:10

I just never heard it said like 5h59.
Ya learn something new everyday. :D

qlue 12. May 2008, 07:28

5h59 is the correct way to write it. 05h59 is the way I'd write it. but I don't understand why people insist on writing it as a ratio 5:59 means,
five to fifty nine against (gambling, insurance etc.)
or five out of fifty nine
or five metres to fifty nine metre scale (on maps, plans etc.)

Dacotah 12. May 2008, 10:26

It just means one min. to 6 to me.

Cois 12. May 2008, 12:35

Its written 5:59 because that's how it appears on digital displays..
The ( is just a separator.. Other people use a (.)

angel292005 31. May 2008, 18:29

Awww Jessica, :frown: Sorry you were freezing your patoozie off :frown:

Well it is 1:23 here. :D And that is how it is taught to us
in school. They never taught us military time, only taught us
this is the correct way to write it...and stressed us on
learning the analog clock. *yawn*

qlue 1. June 2008, 11:53

We were taught analog in grade two. We were also taught about five different ways to write the date. The official goverment way is yy/mm/dd .The way we used to write it is dd/mm/yyyy . We were forbidden in school from writing it mm/dd/yyyy As that was considered to be a vulgar way of writing a date. Programmers have to use a subroutine to convert a date into yyyymmdd Format for sorting purposes to ensure correct, chronological order.

What are you talking about, May 6th was very warm and pleasant P:
Sometimes, during very cold days, fuel in our busses freeze and the only way to get to the job is to use a taxi (or to wait for a bus that will eventually come, but it is kinda hard when this is -15C or something, plus some wind) :yikes:

atlavon 13. July 2008, 09:56

Something specific must've happened for you to remember that day so clearly.. p:
