ParadIS ~ ParadICE

, ,

In Denmark we have a chain of ice cream shops called ParadIS (ParadICE). They make very tasty icecream, and they say that they only sell icecream produced the very same day. That turns out to be a modified truth.

It occurs that ParadIS systematically use the ice cream from previous days in today's production. It is common that 20% of the "new" ice cream are yesterday's leftovers. Twenty percent!

Does it matter? A day more or less can't make a difference? Yes, It matters! One: If some part of today's ice cream will be blended in tomorrow's ice cream and some of tomorrow's ice cream will be blended in the next day's and so on, it means you can end up with something that have be frozen more times than I like to think of. And two: Don't tell me it's from today when it's obviously not!

Shame on you, ParadIS. I am through with you!

I was wondering how did you find it out? But one glance at that photo.... P:
Common sense tells us that it would be impossible to produce and distribute ice cream at the same day. And to flush down the toilet 20% of what was not sold. No one company would be able to do that.
This is why I don`t believe commercials :irked:

Yep early... just because... it is time for me to WAKE UPPPPP soldier Philippe

@ Darko ~ We have some pretty strict rules about advertising, so if you claim something, you must be able to prove it's true. And the authorities check the stores. This company has an sms-service, so if you give them your phone number, they will send you an sms at the end of the day saying for instance "Our shop in *some street* has a great stock of strawberry ice cream that needs to be sold before we close. Come and get 50% off"...
I guess they have to change their advertising now.

@ Philippe ~ Have a beautiful day, Soldier.

It's amazing that companies get away with lies for so long... Disgraceful.

Oh no! That's bad :frown:. I love ice cream, but definitely not one that has been frozen over and over. *shudders*

Hey, that picture looks like a certain kitty eating ink .

I'd like the advertisements to do what they say..
Guess their ad has to be 80% fresh now.. :left:

@ Kimmie ~ Yes, excactly, and they have sold a lot of ice cream because people have thought it was more fresh than usual. *shakes head*

@ Rose ~ I love ice cream too, and ParadIS makes really tasteful ice cream. But I will buy it some other places now, that's for sure.
And I told you that I hadn't eaten the ink. It's all because of the ice cream. P:

@ Cois ~ You should be their new marketing director!

Well, you've got to give them credit for their name - ParadIS. We have one here called KulinarIS who has some really great liquorice ice cream

Yeah, I'd go for ice cream before ink any day too :D.

By rose-marie, # 7. May 2008, 09:48:02

KulinarIS is also a great name. The cool thing about ParadIS' ice cream is that it's made on milk instead of cream, and I like that idea! :D

*stamps foot along with the protest*
That's my kitty! :headbang: They'll never silence our song of protest!

:sing: Uptown girl...

You know, money is the only thing those companies respect, so spreading the word and not going there again is a quite effective tool.

:yuck: :ko:

Many years ago I worked at a cinema, and I dont want to tell you for how many days the people from the kitchen were taking out and putting on the display the EXACT same sausages. :ko: :faint:

I love the pic :D

In fact, sometimes they were offering to us to eat them for lunch, and we were all like  :right:

Eeew that's disgusting, Marina! :yuck:
I heard some supermarkets do the same thing here, like, putting the meat in bags with new dates on them.

By attilasoul, # 7. May 2008, 17:32:27

I dont doubt it at all. And God only knows what they do with the food at restaurants. I have seen some pretty horrible stuff:ko: :ko:

Ever wonder why stuffs' prices get slashed? Check the expiry date..
I used to work in a retail bottle store and when stuff was like half price.. (especially ciders) I'd check the label and see its close to its expiration date..
I always bought cases of the stuff and sold them just below full price at my flat.. :left:

When I was working a gas station we had to get rid of sandwiches at midnight when their expiry came up. We were just meant to throw them away, but there was always a bit of pocket money available from taxi drivers and coppers on the night shift.

@ Marina ~ I think you're right. It could be fun to go to a restaurant and ask to see the kitchen before you're seated... :D

@ Cois ~ I have experienced in a supermarket here, that they mark the almost expired groceries with a special label - I think it said "-30% - your choise" - so you know that it's 30% off if you take the "old" thing. And if it's something you would eat today anyway... *Shrugs* I like to be given a choise.

@ Mik ~ You gave them away for a small amount of money for yourself? Did they know that they were expired?

By attilasoul, # 8. May 2008, 04:09:07

avatar
Course they did Tils. But if the price is right most don't care. Especially when it's only an hour or so past.

By Furie, # 8. May 2008, 07:10:27

avatar
I wouldn't have cared either, as long as I knew that they were expired, because then it would be my own choice.

By attilasoul, # 8. May 2008, 07:41:00

avatar
I think most food is fine a few days after the expiration date. I don't pour out milk the day it expres, for instance. And meat is just fine (it just gets more tender) even it was "best-before" two days ago...

By rose-marie, # 8. May 2008, 08:12:16

avatar
Its always good to have that choice Tills..:D for a moment I thought Mik was going to say the gas was on the verge of expiring! those cab drivers wouldn't have minded some marked down gas eh.. p:

By Cois, # 8. May 2008, 08:19:17

They were usually too relieved to drive up and not find me out on the forecourt, smoking, to bother with prices.
