Weird Names

,

Denmark's once-traditional official register of approved given names is becoming more untraditional each year, particularly since a 2006 law change allowed for the acceptance of ethnic selections.

According to Danish law, parents naming their child must choose a name from the register or send in a special application if the name they want to use is not on the list. But with the influx of immigrants to Denmark bringing names from other cultures, the register had to be updated.

If a name is one that is generally accepted in another country, then it is usually approved. Also, if 25 people currently living in Denmark have the name, it is added to the register.

But some parents still go to extremes in their attempts to give their children a unique first name. And a name still has to bear the mark of being a name, so people can't expect to be able to call their child 'Truck' or 'Chamber Pot.' But I took a look at the list of approved names, and there are some very special names there. On the boys list are for instance: No, Taotao, Jerk, Stygge (in English: Bad) and Eg (in English: Oak). On the girls list are Su, Dytter (in English: Honky), Rosine (in English: Raisine) and Nissine ("Nisse" is an elf).

One couple thoroughly tested the limits of the approved name process, wanting to call their baby 'Rhododendron Bush'. Another couple wanted to name their son 'Anus Jensen'. Both applications were rejected.

@ Zé ~ Marcos is a nice name. In Denmark he would be called Marcus or Markus.

@ Mik ~ No doubt that your son will be a tough little one!

@ Moe ~ Those names aren't common in Denmark, but they are on the list, so you're free to give those names to your kids.

That is because you didnt see the brazilian names!!!

First, most of the poor people tend to choose 'internacional' names, like William and Washington. But the problem is how they are written: Wyllyahn or Wazington. Or maybe a female name: Chrystyanne

:D

Then, comes the really weird names like Xerox, Fotocopy and Paper. These three names are from the same family. Are three sisters.

I wonder why do those people hate so much their children???

Thank God for have given serenity to my parents. My name is one of the most beautiful in the world! :D

Hahahha, Indeed!!!

But there are a tradition that came with the Portuguese and Spanish. These "enormous" names like, Ana Beatriz Cristina Mariana Julieta da Conceição... and so on!

Some traditional families still do that! :faint:

:faint:

And Wyllyahn isn't really looking "nice" in my eyes. :left:

I know a 4 year old named Justin Credible Steven Jankins (not sure if it is Jankins now that I am thinking of it, but the first three are correct)...

What is worse is that there are plenty are psychology studies on the effects of trauma due to screwed up names etc... Most seems to be justified. My brother and his wife read into that stuff etc...

I decided a long time ago that I am naming my boy Harry Ballsak and if I have a girl she will be Virgin Mary (even if I have to lock her in the fucking basement until she is 25)

Speaking of weird names, I have heard about some that was given to kids according to a "spanish soap series" that was popular in certain times, so now we have some girls (happily very rare) with names like Ljovisna or Kasandra - not even close to usual Serbian names. Also, from the `70s I know for Brusli (Bruce Lee) or Jamesdin (James Dean), usually among gipsy population.
On the other hand there are some weird examples all around the world. Luckily he is adult now:

Teddy Bjørn (Teddy Bear)
Mette Vuns (Right Away)
Per Fæcht (Per Fect)...

Anyway, some of my family on my grandmothers side had a lot of kids, and when they got their eight kid, who was a girl, they called her Ottine (can be translated into "Eighth"... :D
