Strictly speaking it's not legal but I don't think the cops will knock down your doors, especially if you're not offering it up for others to download.

I upload youtubes of songs all the time though as do many here in opera and I don't think there's ever been any problems. Think the powers that be have bigger fish to fry.

attilasoul 28. July 2008, 18:21

But can I put it up without others can download it?

Sorry if it's a stupid question.

Furie 28. July 2008, 18:22

As long as you own it and post a disclaimer saying that if we download it and keep it then we're breaking the law and will have our genitalia nibbled off by rabid dobermans or something, then you should be alright.

P*Nut 28. July 2008, 18:28

What he said

attilasoul 28. July 2008, 18:28

Nice disclaimer, I will copy it and put it under the song.

Now... *Looks for the CD*

Thank you both!

Furie 28. July 2008, 18:58

Just one thing. If you're ever asked by someone to remove the song and they can prove they represent the song's interests or the site then put the post on private immediately and delete the song file from your files.

These people always have to ask you to withdraw something before they have any rights to take legal action and, if you comply with their requests, they haven't a leg to stand on in the courts so wont bother with you. It's rare that someone in that capacity will approach you, and if they do then they'll approach the site so it may be admin that ask you to take it down.

dannii 28. July 2008, 19:01

You could insert a Java player into your post.

rose-marie 28. July 2008, 19:31

I think that depends on the legislation of the country the server is in. In this case that would be Norway, and if I'm not mistaken the law here says that you are not allowed to publish somebody elses works without permission.
You can only publish works where you are the rightowner on your own website, otherwise you'll need a license.
However, like said above, I don't think it would be a problem.

b_laudanum 28. July 2008, 19:50

 hmmmmmm I tried to put a java plugin or player or something like that to share music but I never got it... so I just upload it to the blog... I never thought about legal or ilegal and now you said it... I'm thinking... :frown:

P*Nut 28. July 2008, 20:03

I shouldn't worry. As Furie said they would ask you to take it down first if they were concerned. It would only be if you didn't take it down that they'd get stroppy.

Moesring 28. July 2008, 20:08

Personally, I would go for a player rather than posting the music directly on your blog. I use Deezer because it claims to be a legal music player service.

:sst: Also, if anyone gets sued for copyright infringement then it is Deezer that gets sued not me. :D

gdare 28. July 2008, 20:30

So, now when everything is cleared... where is a song? :D

P*Nut 28. July 2008, 20:37

b_laudanum 28. July 2008, 21:06

p:

lets see deezer!

rose-marie 28. July 2008, 21:11

I wonder which song it will be... :sherlock:

This really isn't any different from pictures borrowed from other sites...

b_laudanum 28. July 2008, 21:47

I took a look at deezer and seems really nice! I'll test now at my blog! Thank you Moe!

qlue 28. July 2008, 21:54

The whole legal or not debate is as old as music it'self.

theoddbod 28. July 2008, 22:25

If it's just one song, the mods here should be ok. The worst they'll do is ask you to remove it.

attilasoul 29. July 2008, 04:16

I need some help if I am going to install a player. I registrered on Deezer, but maybe it's too early in the morning for me, because I couldn't figure out what to do next. awww

Second of all - if I'll have a player here, I want one that doesn't start by itself when people come here. I hate it when a blog suddenly starts playing. Usually I have my speakers off, but once in a while I have headphones on.

Spaggyj 29. July 2008, 06:37

It would be "safer" to embed it from somewhere, yes, but as Mik said, the disclaimer should be enough. I doubt you'll get someone knocking down your door p:

No love for us phonies then. :frown:

attilasoul 29. July 2008, 07:30

No love? How come?

Maybe I should just forget it. I thought it was simpler. awww

P*Nut 29. July 2008, 07:47

It doesn't have to be that complicated. If your songs well known you will probably find it on youtube, and then you can just copy and paste the "embed" link on the right.

This also doesn't do the automatic playing that I hate as well.

If I can do it (I'm not very computer literate) then anyone can do it! :D

P*Nut 29. July 2008, 07:48

P.S. How do you do those picture tags at the top of your blogs. They're quite cute. I've noticed lots of people do it but don't have a clue how I would...

attilasoul 29. July 2008, 07:49

I can do it from YouTube, but I wanted to put up "the real song", you know, for the better quality.

P*Nut 29. July 2008, 07:52

Ah okay!

I'm sure it shouldn't be all that complicated. I'll copy your post to a friend and see if he can help, if that's okay.

attilasoul 29. July 2008, 07:55

Of course it's ok, any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

MossMan 29. July 2008, 10:54

Well here's "the friend"... but I'm afraid I can't really say too much on this one.

I would personally go for the YouTube route if you're concerned about being bothered by the big brother music industry, but if you're not then you could just put an MP3 in your MyOpera files and post a link to it on the blog...

I notice MyOpera doesn't let you store videos any more, so you might not be able to store it as an MP3 - in which case just zip it first.

attilasoul 29. July 2008, 11:01

Hello "friend".
Thanks for the advice. I think I'll end up doing a mix of Deezer and file upload of the song. I am testing it right this minute.

Thank you all, for the advice you provided, I appreciate all the help I can get!

Furie 29. July 2008, 14:23

All these different sites with their java and flash players wont work for phone users at all. :frown: If you upload the file to your page then everyone can check it out. If not then I know a place you can use to upload it for public viewing, but the details are on my other phone.
