Safe Sex in India

,

"Condom, condom!" This is the words of a new mobile phone ring tone that has been launched to promote safe sex in India. The a cappella ring tone features a professional singer chanting the word condom more than 50 times.

It's a playful approach that public health activists hope will spark discussion and make condoms more socially acceptable in India, where condoms carry a strong social stigma but where AIDS is a growing problem: Nearly 2.5 million people in India are infected with HIV and the disease is still largely taboo.

The activist BBC group hopes the condom ring tone can make people in India more comfortable with safe sex issues. Their point is that if you use this ring tone you'll show that you are a condom user and you don't have any issues with it.

More than 270 million people use mobile phones in India and ring tones, especially those featuring hit Bollywood songs, are extremely popular.

The ring tone was launched on the 8th of August and has been downloaded 60,000 times so far.

So tell me, what do you guys have as your ring tone and as your sms tone on your phones?

A rather unexpected change of direction at the end.

To answer your question though, my phone is always set on silent so the ringtone I have chosen is irrelevant as it is never heard. :D

:wonders what Tilla's tones are:

Darko 21. August 2008, 04:29

I have annoying sound of razor machine that started to shave 3 days beard. Annoying to others and to me, but at least make me pay attention to my phone P:

Furie 21. August 2008, 04:45

I got Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas. :headbang: It starts off with the words of the chorus, no music then breaks into a guitar and drums section for around a minute, meaning it grabs my attention but isn't annoying. My text alert is a subtle built in one called Polaris.

Spaggyj 21. August 2008, 04:54

Umm... I got Monty Python's Knights Of The Round Table as my ringtone :o: .

I see the mindset behind this condom ringtone but... It'd be a bit embarrassing to have!

Attila 21. August 2008, 05:39

My ring tone is the theme from Muppet Show as the main one, and it's loud. My main SMS tone is a man saying: "Excuse me Boss, you have a text message!"

:D

Moesring 21. August 2008, 05:43

The Muppets theme?
It should be Mahna Mahna...

:changes ringtone :yes::

Furie 21. August 2008, 05:52

It's actually close to impossible to find a good quality tone of that Moe. I had a request a few years back and it took me months to find it.

Attila 21. August 2008, 06:32

I would like to have Mahna Mahna as well, but the theme was the closets I could come.

Why would you change the ringtone if you always have it muted, Moe? :D

Furie 21. August 2008, 12:25

He changed yours. He's one of my agents in Denmark.

Attila 21. August 2008, 12:30

Okaaaay.... I better check which tone it is before it scares the crap out of me next time someone calls! :left:

Furie 21. August 2008, 13:16

*sets it back to normal just to confuse the cat*

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 21. August 2008, 13:52

I have some random ambient chirpy thing which I never hear whenever anyone phones me on it! Not the most practical of ringtones really!!

Attila 21. August 2008, 13:57

@ Mik ~ *Loads shotgun* Don't you come anywhere near my phone!

@ Nutty ~ Perhaps you should change it. :left:

I borrowed a phone for a couple of days once. I went to the mall, browsing around, when my phone rang. I had forgotten that I wasn't carrying my own phone, so I didn't recognize the ring tone. It rang and rang, and after a while I thought to myself: "Who is that idiot that doesn't answer the phone...?!" And then I figured out who the idiot was. Homer: Doh! :o:

:sst: This is the kind of stories that you swear you'll never tell anyone.

Aadil 21. August 2008, 15:15

My old phone has a built in sequencer. I used it to create a siren sound using the two notes that have the greatest perceived amplitude. I can hear it through a double brick wall. :insane: .
This phone, that I'm typing this with, doesn't have a sequencer. I tried finding an online sequencer but the ones I found won't work with Operamini. I use it on vibrate. awww

Attila 21. August 2008, 15:25

Sounds nice that it's so loud. I have scared the crap out of several persons because my phone rings so loud. Especially the sms tone is really loud. :sst: It even scares myself from time to time! :D

Furie 21. August 2008, 15:49

I rarely have mine above one bar. Of course I rarely have mine far enough away from me to need to be louder.

Anyone else used to change their mate's Nokia ringtones to the William Tell Overture and rack the volume up as loud as it goes just to mess with them? :left:

Attila 21. August 2008, 16:07

:eyes:

*Watching phone starts dancing on the table* :faint:

Furie 21. August 2008, 16:16

dumb cat yes
p:

Cois 21. August 2008, 18:45

I recently put up some things I found on Mik's Mosh page but before that it was some anime songs..

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 21. August 2008, 18:59

Where are you guys getting these "cartoon versions of yourselves" avatars from?

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 21. August 2008, 19:06

Thanks!

Christopher DaSilva 22. August 2008, 02:26

Mine says "Gay sex, gay sex!" everytime it rings. I tried to change it to 'straight' to suit my type but I don't know where I can change the settings. :worried:

Darko 22. August 2008, 04:45

Aadil 22. August 2008, 07:24

I've got bad news for you Dannii. You phone has a built in sensor.

Chthoniid 25. August 2008, 23:36

I've got both SMS and ringtone to be set to "Shiny Happy People" by REM

It reflects my ongoing affection for alternative music from the 80s. And has the happy consequence that it is not shared by anyone else I'm familiar with.

Furie 26. August 2008, 06:40

*changes Shiny Happy People to Dan's ringtone*

Attila 26. August 2008, 09:35

:D

That'll be fun!

r♡se 27. August 2008, 16:46

I have the old message alert sound from ICQ as my sms and a few different (for different people) ringtones. The Simpsons being one :o:.

Attila 27. August 2008, 16:49

:D

I have one profile for when I'm out in traffic and one for when I'm home. The first one is way louder!

r♡se 27. August 2008, 17:17

I have mine so low I never hear it if I'm outside. Because of that, I also have vibration on, but since the phone is my bag, I can't feel it either :D.

Attila 27. August 2008, 18:04

Then you might as well just mute it like Moe does! :D
Mine both rings loud and vibrates.

r♡se 27. August 2008, 18:29

I hope you answer your calls fast! p:

Attila 27. August 2008, 18:49

It depends. Usually I have to get the phone out of my pocket first, preferably without falling off my bicycle.

Darko 27. August 2008, 19:15

You can put it in your pocket, it feels nice when it vibrates

Furie 27. August 2008, 20:20

What are you doing to those poor innocent phones?

Chthoniid 27. August 2008, 21:20

How will I know if nobody ever calls me :frown:

Furie 27. August 2008, 22:55

Writing your number on toilet walls along with the message "For a good time, call..." will sort that problem out.

Darko 28. August 2008, 04:41

Attila 28. August 2008, 04:46

That's sure going to make you popular, chtoniid!

@ Darko ~ I know - it's usually in my pocket!

theoddbod 30. August 2008, 12:26

On silent, almost always. If not, just the default p:

Attila 30. August 2008, 14:15

I am way too curious to have mine on silent. :D

theoddbod 30. August 2008, 14:36

Curious?

Attila 30. August 2008, 14:37

I like to hear when I get an sms or a call without checking all the time.

theoddbod 30. August 2008, 14:43

I have mine clipped to my belt and on vibrate p:

Attila 30. August 2008, 14:47

Ah.... Mine vibrates as well. I don't want to miss a thing!

Cois 1. September 2008, 08:01

You don't want a vibration? :eyes: kinky..
Can't believe you Mart.. :eek:you've got a perfectly good pocket just inches away from that belt clip.. yuppie..

theoddbod 1. September 2008, 17:46

Putting a phone in your pocket is fine...unless you sit down, or want to put anything else in there. A jacket pocket is ok sometimes, but never a trouser one p:

Attila 1. September 2008, 17:49

Yes Wolfieboy, I like the vibrations!

I either keep my phone in my trouser pocket, which works fine. P: Alternatively in my bag, but that's annoying if it rings, because it takes time to find it down there.
