Body Decorations

,

This post is about various kinds of body decorations and modifications.

One of the most common kind of body decoration is the Tattoo. Tattoos have been performed since before the second millinium B.C., so it's not excactly a new trend. These two are a couple of the more imaginative tattoos.

Henna tattoo, also known as Mehndi. Application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration, in South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Somalia as well as expatriate communities from these areas. It is typically employed for special occasions, particularly weddings. It is usually drawn on the hands and feet, where the color will be darkest because the skin contains higher levels of keratin which binds permanently to lawsone, the colorant of henna. The tradition of Henna started in India in the early days when bridal decoration was scarce. Henna was used as a form of decoration mainly for brides.

A more extreme form of body decoration is Scarification. There are various forms of scarifications:

Branding is making a mark, usually a symbol or ornamental pattern, by burning it into the skin, with the intention that the resulting scar makes it permanent. This is performed using a hot or cold iron.

Carving is removal of skin, leaving deep scar in the cutted pattern. There is a specific procedure to remove the skin. At first, the area where the carving is to be done is properly cleaned. After that, the design is drawn on the skin. The design is then outlined until the right depth is reached. Then the skin is removed using dissection clamps.

Piercings is the practice of puncturing or cutting a part of the human body, creating an opening in which jewelry may be worn. It is not excactly a new trenad either, some say the first recordings were approximately 4,000 years ago. Piercings are now made almost everywhere on the body, the most common is ear piercings, more extreme ones are piercings in genitals or a special one like this one.

Implants. Cutting the skin open to place various forms of implants under the skin. They can be place everywhere you want them on your body, some men even get little beads operated into their penis! And yes, it is on purpose that I don't have photos of that here!

There are lots of other ways to modify your body.

Splitting your tongue is one.
Doing more than one modification also seem to be pretty popular. :D

Are there body decorations or modifications I have forgotten?

:yuck: :faint:
Belly buttons, nipples, and womens privates.

Darko 12. June 2008, 05:00

:eyes:
Interesting post, but except of usual and this hena tatooing I don`t think I like any of other forms. Maybe I am too old fashioned, but I love my body to stay the same as it is now :insane:

Moesring 12. June 2008, 05:10

 Were those piercings in the uvula? :faint:
I can quite safely say I won't be getting anything here - particularly the later procedures :yuck:

Attila 12. June 2008, 05:54

@ Carol ~ I didn't want photos of that in the post, but I think it belongs under "piercings".

@ Darko ~ I get your point. But it keeps changing what it "usual". I mean, no one would look twice at ear piercings, because everybody has it. Now nose piercings and eyebrow piercings are common among youngsters here, so perhaps some day, that will be just as "normal" as the ear piercings.

@ Moe ~ Yes, the uvula piercing is kind of scary, right? :eyes: And I agree with you, the extreme ones aren't even nice to look at.

theoddbod 12. June 2008, 07:20

:yuck:

Cois 12. June 2008, 07:55

Hmmm.. Wonder how a girl would kiss with a split tongue.. :D. Respect to peeps feeling a need to go extreme and doing it.. Hey my view is that your body is yours so do with it as you please.. *shrugs*

Kimmie 12. June 2008, 07:58

Bit scary... But if people like it, then fair enough. What I don't like is the carving thing - reminds me of someone who did it to herself as a more creative way of self-harm. *shrugs*

Santa Furie 12. June 2008, 08:16

:yuck:

Cois 12. June 2008, 08:33

Some peoples pleasure is pain probably.. :insane: wouldn't want it done myself and it wouldn't wanna watch.. :insane: ok maybe I will.. I wouldn't mind some piercings now.. But not THAT extreme.. :D

r♡se 12. June 2008, 08:37

:eyes: Carving sounds so extremely painful.

Attila 12. June 2008, 08:59

@ Cois ~ I read a guys description of how he split his tongue, and he said that having his tongue split was like having to separate tongues. Not that I can imagine that either!

@ Kimmie ~ I agree with you, if people like it, then ok with me.

@ Mart & Mik ~ Are you :yuck:ing of them all? :left:

@ Rose ~ I don't even want to imagine how much it must hurt to be carved. :eyes:

Dacotah 12. June 2008, 09:41

:yikes: I would't want to see photos either, just those ones came to mind.

Attila 12. June 2008, 09:44

:D

Belly buttons have become quite normal here as well. As long with tattooing on lower back like this one We call them "Amager nummerplader" here - translated it means "Amager licence plate" - Amager is a part of Copenhagen. :D

Dacotah 12. June 2008, 10:04

My daughter has a tatoo on her lower back and one on each ankle.

Pfelelep 12. June 2008, 11:55

I've just stumbled upon an hilarous article called
The Top 10 Most Stupid Tattoos
via netorama

Attila 12. June 2008, 12:08

Cool link. I noticed the top skeleton guy from my post was in the YouTube thing too.

Pfelelep 12. June 2008, 12:18

I think he's a kinda "star" now. :alien:

My tatoo artist told me once that he don't tatoo face, as it is a "social suicide."

Attila 12. June 2008, 13:01

It is illegal for tattooists in Denmark to do face tattoos, but I know that some will do it anyway.

scootercats 12. June 2008, 15:07

Some of those pics are scarey :yuck:

Attila 12. June 2008, 16:05

Yes, I know. Times changes, things apparently need to be more and more extreme.

Ripp 12. June 2008, 16:09

Nice!

Bea 12. June 2008, 16:12

:yuck: I'm going to the bathroom... excuse me...

:yuck: I'm going to the bathroom... excuse me...

Attila 12. June 2008, 16:17

hahaha, two different opinions in less than four minutes!

Is it just here that MyOpera works annoyingly slow today? :irked:

Dacotah 12. June 2008, 16:46

Yes My Opera is slow today, new release of the Opera browser 9.5 today.

Bea 12. June 2008, 16:52

I'm back and yes, is slow today! :irked:

I have a tattoo and loved if I could do more, but... changing so hard the body... hmmmm... that's not my way...

Bea 12. June 2008, 16:58

I heard that there's a brazilian guy that is gonna get the Guiness Book of tattoo. He has almost 100% of his body tattooed.

If I'm not wrong just his finger foot aren't tattooed yet. Yet!

Attila 12. June 2008, 17:01

@ Carol ~ oh, ok, then I understand. Thank you.

@ B ~ May I ask where you have your tattoo, and what it is? :curious:

Dacotah 12. June 2008, 17:04

Bea 12. June 2008, 17:12

It's a sun, the egyptian image of the god sun. In my back, near my neck. Its size is like your palm hand.

When I did it, almost 10 years ago, tattoos were not so famous where I live. So, I was the second woman to be tattooed in Manaus. And I did the draw by myself inspired in the egyptian god.

I like sun, I like the energy it represents. If I could do one more tattoo, I'd do a huge dragon, but just the skeleton, spitting fire in the sun... and the sun would be a bit modified, as if it was melting.

Just b & w.

Dacotah 12. June 2008, 17:20

I'd like to get a tattoo. Yours sounds beautiful.
I don't like the way some distort their figure or face like the photos Tilla has.

Bea 12. June 2008, 18:29

hmmmm yeah, some sounds interesting, but the problem is that probably those guys will feel repented for have done that.

beautiful tattoos are best. you can admire them every day and your friends will like it.

before make one, you have to be sure of the draw. if it's what you really want and if the color will be fine in your color skin.

but I like the idea you get one! you'll feel much more sexy and beautiful after have one.

Dacotah 12. June 2008, 18:39

I like to get an  tattoo. Just have to find one that I'd like also to get over the fact someone would see me. On my left back shoulder blade is where I'd like mine.

Bea 12. June 2008, 18:50

 an angel would be nice!!! but not a dark angel huh?

I've a friend that did a dark angel in her back and... I dont know but seems a little depressive... it's beautiful, but not happy!

Hope tattoos are not so expensive as they are in my city.

scootercats 12. June 2008, 19:17

I have two tattoos, one is a cresent moon the other is a tribal style lizard

Dacotah 12. June 2008, 21:14

b_laudanum, right, no dark angel for me, I would love a Guardian Angel tattoo.
Not expensive here at all.

theoddbod 12. June 2008, 21:28

All the pics are :yuck: in some way, except possibly the hands.

Bea 12. June 2008, 22:28

yes, a guardian angel is

Dacotah 13. June 2008, 00:48

Doesn't dark angel mean the ?
