Narnia - Prince Caspian

,

I went to see the second one of the Narnia-films yesterday, "Prince Caspian". I saw the first one when it was shown in the movie theaters three years ago, so I must admit that it took me a little while to get back into the Narnia-universe again.

The story begins with Prince Caspian, nephew of Miraz, the leader of the "Telmarines," the human population that is now the dominant race in Narnia, fleeing for his life when Miraz's wife gives birth to a son. Miraz stole the throne from the rightful King, Caspian's father, and now that he has an heir of his own, he wants Caspian out of the way for good.

Meanwhile, back in London, the four siblings are trying to adjust to life in the real world. But in less time than it takes to board the London underground, the Pevensie's are once again transported back to the magical kingdom - only it is not the place they left. Over a thousand years have passed, and the castle of Cair Paravel lies in ruins.

As the children struggle to find out what has happened, they stumble upon a Dwarf named Trumpkin, who is being taken prisoner by Telmarine soldiers. They rescue Trumpkin from his captors, and the surly old dwarf (whom they nickname "The DLF", or "Dear Little Friend,") explains that all is not well in Narnia. It seems that Narnia has been plunged into a dark age, and the Telmarines have ruled for hundreds of years with an iron fist. The days of the many creatures living in harmony together, have long since passed, and no one has seen or heard of the great lion Aslan in centuries. And what's more, the trees are no longer friends to the Narnians - they are just normal, everyday trees. awww

It doesn't take long before the children meet up with Caspain, and soon they join forces to reclaim Narnia for the Narnians, and place Caspian, the rightful heir, on the throne.

I was a little bit disappointed the first 15-20 minutes of the film. But suddenly I was sucked back into the Narnia universe as the movie moved along at a steady, exciting pace, with skillfully staged action. The level of action and violence is quite a bit stronger than in the first film, and the film has a darker tone. I liked it!

Crash of the Titans

, ,

Do you know Crash? If not, let me introduce you to him. Crash is a game character made for the PlayStation console. He was in his first game, Crash Bandicoot in 1996. 10 years later it was also emulated on the PlayStation Network, through which it can be played on the PlayStation Portable and, as of Operating System update 1.70, on the PlayStation 3. I have also seen Crash of the Titans for both Wii and X-box.

Crash has gone through a lot since 1996. Crash Bandicoot 1, 2 and 3, "Crash Nitro Cart" and "Crash Mind over Mutants" are a few I remember.

I just bought "Crash of the Titans" for my PSP. It's been a while since I gamed, the last games I played was "Sims Busting Out" and "Tekken 5", both for PSP. So I thought I wanted something new, and since Crash has always appealed to me, I decided for this one.

I started playing it a few days ago, and I am already bitten by it. In Crash of the Titans, Crash is able to beat his enemies and hijack them so he can gain control of their huge and various powers.

One of the reasons that I like Crash is that he is both cute, adventorous, and sure knows how to kick ass!

It's so cool. I already love the game!
There are only two minuses so far:
- Some of the levels are a bit long, and you can't save in between levels. So sometimes I have to play for a longer period of time than I intended.
- I get sore thumbs.

The Happening

,

Sometimes you see a trailer that leaves so many questions that you just got to go in an watch the movie. The Happening had such a trailer.

The film sees some sort of mysterious ecological event leading to people committing mass suicide, the phenomenon spreading first from large cities then to smaller towns until it is clear a huge chunk of the East Coast is affected. At first, it is assumed to be a terrorist attack but, as more and more people are spontaneously killing themselves, it is clear the cause may be something else entirely.

The acting is unwatchable. No one in this film gives a good performance. The acting, similar to the screenplay is devoid of emotion. No one is reacting like a real person. Each character seems to be emotionally empty. They don't seem nervous that millions of people are dying, they're not hysterical or even realistic. They at no time in the film seem desperate with the desire and hope to live. At times they try to appear upset, but it is so shallow that the viewer is left flat.

The Happening asks a lot of questions. It doesn't come up with any answers. :irked:

Untraceable

,

With the internet and cyberspace so common in everyone's life today, plus with the reported upswing of crimes like identity theft and pornography on the net in it's own way "Untraceable" is a very relevant movie.

Untraceable is a crime computer thriller that's set in Portland, Oregon and involves an investigative computer unit of the FBI headed up by a single mother Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane). Interestlingly the unit comes across a website of a creep who broadcasts live torture and killings of hostage victims in various grisly ways live over the internet. The bloody catch is the more the web surfer logs onto the sick website, the faster and quicker the victims will die in the various forms of bleed outs, fried by hot mirrors, or seasoned by sulfuric acid. The drama only gets more interesting when the computer of Jennifer is hacked into by the sicko setting up for a dramatic finish and showdown encounter.

The movie had a few things going in its favor. For one, it used reasonable technology and background, at least it looked reasonable to me, so the story wasn't far-fetched. Secondly, it honestly kept me on the edge of my seat for a good portion of the movie. And lastly, the ending does not drag itself out. It ends at the logical point.

The movie was a little slow. It is not an action movie, does not have any nudity, no car chases, no monsters, no sex, no love triangle, no street fighting. And it worked fine for me.

That having been said, this movie will not change your life. It's just an entertaining movie to watch.

Kiss in Copenhagen

, ,

You don't have to pucker up your lips, because this has got nothing to do with kissing. No, this is about a KISS concert I went to yesterday.

Kiss started their band back in 1973, so they called this tour "KISS Alive/35 World Tour", and these old men were very much alive!

They had chosen "From First to Last" as a warm-up band. I had never heard any of their music before, but the sound was pretty bad, so I crossed fingers and hoped the sound would be better when Kiss came on stage. After about 45 minutes they finally packed their gear and the waiting began. After another 45 minutes where people became more and more in the mood for the concert, it finally began with the words:
"You wanted the best. You got the best. The hottest band in the world!" :headbang:

I got fireworks, glitter and platform shoes. I got the atmosphere of an era, that is long forgotten. I got Gene Simmons, just as bad as his rumour, wiggling his long tongue and spitting both fire and blood. And I got Paul Stanley, who was so vain that he kept ruffling his hair to make it look better! And he can sing!

I only got 3 songs that I knew, namely "Lick it up", "I was made for loving you baby" and "Shout it out loud". But it doesn't matter that I didn't know any of the other songs. There was a great party in Copenhagen yesterday, and Kiss surely knew how to start it!

And it was loud. Sooo loud. My ears still hurt, to be honest. But who gives a fuck! It was amazing!!!

Indiana Jones IV

,

... or "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"

Famed archaeologist and adventurer Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones is called back into action when he becomes entangled in a Soviet plot to uncover the secret behind mysterious artifacts known as the Crystal Skulls.

A chaotic warehouse escape, nuclear explosions, jungle swashbuckling, man-eating ants, monkey men, and an ancient amazonian temple spectacle that is almost too strange to conceive. This is what so many people waited for for so long.

I am not a big Indiana Jones fan, but I had decided to see this movie anyway. It was pretty much what I expected it to be, an action film with a touch of humour. I must admit that I like Harrison Ford, also in this movie, even though I begin to think that he is a tad too old to play an action hero.

I will give it :star::star::star::star: out of 6.

Street Kings

,

Keanu Reeves plays a LAPD cop who gets caught up in a cat and mouse game of murder and violence. Reeves learns from his boss (Forest Whitaker) that a former partner has been turning over dirty details about him. When Reeves goes to confront the former partner, two thugs shoot the partner down so Whitaker must cover up the fact that Reeves was there because it would look like Reeves called out a hit on his partner. This here is where the trouble begins because Reeves wants vengeance for his partners death and soon he begins to uncover a dirty game of money and death.

The plot has too many unconnected and essentially useless strands, and too many undeveloped characters whose purpose is either to kill or be killed. Banal, is the word that first springs to mind. And I hated the ending.

TV vs. DVDs

, , ,

The worst thing about being ill is that it's so damn boring. I generally don't watch much TV, but when I am ill I usually watch a lot of junk TV, and I hate it.

So this time I decided to do things differently. Reading makes my headache worse, so I have watched DVDs instead. Five of them until now to be precise.

First I saw "Blinkende Lygter" ("Flickering Lights"), a Danish movie about four small gangsters from Copenhagen who trick a gangster boss: They take over 4,000,000 kroner which they were supposed to bring him. It's a comedy; basically about the hope that can grow out of desperation. A very cool movie. If you can get your hands on it, you should watch it. And it comes with English subtitles as well.

Then I saw "Blades of Glory".
It is about two rival Olympic ice skaters who were stripped of their gold medals and permanently banned from men's single competition. However they discover a loophole that will allow them to qualify as a pairs team.

A comedy, non-committal but entertaining.

"Hitch" was up next. A romantic comedy where Will Smith plays a "date-doctor", who knows what works with women and teaches the guys who do not do well with them some tricks of the trade. Then he finds a girl who he falls for and everything that he thinks he knows does not work out for himself. I like this movie - in fact I think Will Smith plays better in this one than in most of his action movies.

I have a DVD called "Pixar Short Films Collection, vol. 1", which I also watched yesterday.

Pixar has made so many cool short films. The latest ones are their best if you ask me, and the "For The Birds"-film from the photo here is my favourite.

(I just Googled it, and some of the small birds have actually got names: Bully, Chipper, Snob and Neurotic. It suits them very well! )

The last one I saw yesterday was "The Green Mile". There are so many positive things I could write about this film, but basically it is a story about the lives of guards on death row leading up to the execution of a giant black man accused of child murder and rape, who has the power of faith healing. I absolutely love this film, as I loved the book. An extra bonus about seeing the movie instead of reading the book is actor David Morse. I love him in this movie! flirt

So... apart from sleeping and blogging, this is pretty much what I have been doing the last two days.

P.S. I Love You

, ,

Holly (Hilary Swank) has been married nine years to a wild Irishman, Gerry Kennedy (Gerard Butler), her one true love. Unfortunately Gerry is diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. Knowing he only has a short time to live Gerry writes Holly a series of letters that will guide her through her grief.

The first message arrives on Holly's 30th birthday, where Gerry sends her a birthday cake and a tape recording explaining the letters that she will be getting in the mail. Over the next year, Gerry wants Holly to follow the orders in his letters by going on new adventures and to celebrate life by finding herself.

Holly's best friends, Denise (Lisa Kudrow) and Sharon (Gina Gershon), accompany her on her journey. Kathy Bates plays Holly's mom, and Harry Connick Jr. plays a guy who hits on Holly. I adore Kathy Bates! And I had to look up Harry Connick Jr. when I got home, I knew I had seen him in something else... I slapped my forehead when I saw that he played Leo, Grace's husband in 23 episodes of Will & Grace! Homer: Doh! No wonder I've seen him before!

It's been a while since I saw a real girl movie, and to be completely honest I didn't think this would be much different than any other girl movie. But I loved it. I sobbed and laughed by turns through the two hours it lasted.

I'll give it :star::star::star::star::star: out of 6.

P.S. I love you

The Flame and The Lemon ~ Flammen og Citronen

, ,

Weird title for a blog post?! Yes, indeed, and on the surface also a weird title for a movie. But it's the title of the so far most expensive Danish produced movie.

The movie takes place in Copenhagen in the autumn of 1944 during World War II. Most of the Danes are restless and scared, and hoping for the war to end soon. The Flame and The Lemon are two persons from the Danish Resistance, and together they made the group "Holger Danske". They get their orders from highest place, the Danish chief of police, who claims to get his orders from the British.

When The Flame gets ordered to shoot his girlfriend, the beautiful and mysterious courier Ketty, he begins to question the orders. With a large reward offered for turning him in, things start to get difficult, and it shows that you can't be sure of who you can trust, and who you can't.

It was a very good movie, and it portrayed the main charachters very well. It was pretty long though!

I will give it :star::star::star::star::star: out of 6.

Oh, btw, the title? The Flame was red-haired and the Lemon had a big role in bombing and destroying the Citroën factory... (Lemon means Citron in Danish).
