Tilla's corner of the Web

Untraceable

,

With the internet and cyberspace so common in everyone's life today, plus with the reported upswing of crimes like identity theft and pornography on the net in it's own way "Untraceable" is a very relevant movie.

Untraceable is a crime computer thriller that's set in Portland, Oregon and involves an investigative computer unit of the FBI headed up by a single mother Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane). Interestlingly the unit comes across a website of a creep who broadcasts live torture and killings of hostage victims in various grisly ways live over the internet. The bloody catch is the more the web surfer logs onto the sick website, the faster and quicker the victims will die in the various forms of bleed outs, fried by hot mirrors, or seasoned by sulfuric acid. The drama only gets more interesting when the computer of Jennifer is hacked into by the sicko setting up for a dramatic finish and showdown encounter.

The movie had a few things going in its favor. For one, it used reasonable technology and background, at least it looked reasonable to me, so the story wasn't far-fetched. Secondly, it honestly kept me on the edge of my seat for a good portion of the movie. And lastly, the ending does not drag itself out. It ends at the logical point.

The movie was a little slow. It is not an action movie, does not have any nudity, no car chases, no monsters, no sex, no love triangle, no street fighting. And it worked fine for me.

That having been said, this movie will not change your life. It's just an entertaining movie to watch.

@ Ripp ~ Yep, I am nice. :D

@ Carol ~ I think it was. Sometimes computer movies get so technical that I end up thinking if all that is really possible.

@ Darko ~ and no car chases. Definitely not a movie for you!

I am not sure I understand what you mean, Mart?

Never heard of it, but sounds like something I could watch . DVD?
Are the torture scenes graphic - do they show a lot of gore?

By rose-marie, # 8. June 2008, 11:21:32

Not out on DVD in Denmark yet Rose, it's still in the movies!
The torture scenes could have been shown a lot worse than they were. The worst one was the guy who was killed by battery acid. :yuck:

By attilasoul, # 8. June 2008, 11:42:45

That is indeed what I meant. I wondered if, with all the other bits (no action, nudity, etc), the gore was shown or merely implied.

I just checked filmweb.no and it doesn't seem to be out here yet... Unless they've given it a silly Norwegian name or even worse - another English name :faint:

@ Mart ~ There were blood and stuff, but definitely not as bad as it could have been! I hate it when they go too much into detail with it!

@ Rose ~ They sometimes do that in Denmark too, and I think especially the thing about changing the name into another English name is pure stupidity. :irked:

By attilasoul, # 8. June 2008, 12:40:09

It is pure stupidity indeed! They renamed the movie "Miss congeniality" to "Miss undercover" here

By rose-marie, # 8. June 2008, 14:52:52

avatar
That's ridiculous! I remember they renamed "Beaches" into "Friends" here. :D
